Consumer shopping and spending habits have changed in the past few years, first due to the pandemic and second, the cost of living crisis.
According to the British Retail Consortium, six thousand shops have closed down in the UK in the last five years as a result of “crippling business rates, a wave of administrations during the pandemic, and hesitancy around new openings”, reported Retail Gazette.
Retailers and supermarkets have had to adapt to a changing landscape of shopping, but while this has meant store closures for some, it has meant ambitious new openings for others.
Sainsbury’s will be opening many new stores in the coming months, according to The Sun, with two opening this week alone.
