A woman has revealed that her Christmas is on the brink of ruin because the festive holiday falls on a Monday this year.

Taking to British parenting forum Mumsnet, the mother-of-one admitted to feeling ‘irrationally annoyed’ about the little time she had to revel in merry festivities before December 25th.

She explained that as her office would be ‘breaking up’ for the holidays on Friday December 22, she would only have the weekend to get ‘into the Christmas spirit’ and engage in ‘Christmas activities’.

When she asked the forum if she was being ‘unreasonable’ for feeling slighted about the calendar date, many replied by mocking her, including one person who called her ‘pretty daft’, while another told her to ‘get over it’.

Explaining the predicament, she wrote: ‘I’m feeling very irrationally annoyed at Christmas being on a Monday this year.

The unnamed mother-of-one admitted to feeling ‘irrationally annoyed’ about the little time she had to revel in merry festivities before December 25th. She also said she feared only having the weekend to get ‘into the Christmas spirit’

‘Normally you break up on the Friday the week prior to Christmas and have a few days getting into the Christmas spirit, doing Christmas activities and getting the last bits ready.

‘This year I break up on the Friday and then BAM Christmas day and it’s all over’.

She concluded the rant by asking if she was perhaps being unreasonable for getting ‘really annoyed’ about the holiday’s placement.

Responses poured in thick and fast, with the post totalling a staggering 323 comments.

An accompanying poll pulled in over 2000 votes, with a whopping 81 per cent of users voting against the poster by saying she was indeed being unreasonable.

Replying to her post, person wrote: ‘Who breaks up? Are you a teacher? It’s pretty daft to be annoyed by a calendar.’

Insinuating that she was being childish, another added: ‘Are you five? Have you never noticed this phenomenon before?’

A third advised: ‘Yes, I think you should complain. Ask for it to be moved to the weekend every year from now on.’

‘It’s on a different day every year. Get over it,’ said a fourth.

‘The only things you can do is start an online petition to move Christmas Day and contact the minister of important things’ said another sarcastically.

And one more said: ‘You are not being unreasonable and have every right to be annoyed, very annoyed in fact! I suggest you pop outside, shout loudly and shake your fist at a passing cloud. Then give your head a wobble.’

However not everyone felt this way, with some people also sharing their disdain for the Christmas date.

One person wrote: ‘It is slightly inconvenient on a Monday. Only six hours for everyone to do the last minute grocery shopping. I’m not looking forward to that.’

Someone else said: ‘We break up (teacher) on the 22nd! No pre-Christmas time for the kids to do stuff apart from the weekends. But I like the time after Christmas to chill and we don’t go back until the 9th!’

Meanwhile one user commented: ‘I think it’s great. Means you finish work on Friday and get the weekend to prepare/relax. Monday is the best day it’s my honest opinion’.

Later on in an updated post, the woman pointed to financial issues as a reason for her annoyance: ‘I know it’s irrational. It’s never bothered me it being on a Monday before, probably because I used to work Christmas day before my daughter was born, but this year I’m really annoyed.

‘I thinks it’s because I won’t have time after pay day to get last minute gifts so will have to try to squeeze them all in this pay’.

Looking on the bright side, one person replied: ‘Nah. This year is fine – four days off in a row. Next year is rubbish. Work 23rd and 24th, off 25th and 26th then in for one rubbish Friday before the weekend. Then new year on the Wednesday. Won’t know if I’m coming or going!’
