Paul OGradys daughter remembers her dad with sweet tribute after his death

National Television Awards pay tribute to Paul O’Grady

After Paul O’Grady sadly died in March this year, his daughter Sharon has paid tribute to her beloved dad. Sharon Mousley, who was born in 1974 to Paul and his friend Diane Jansen, revealed her son Abel uses one of her late dad’s favourite songs as his ringtone.

She explained: “When dad used to take Abel out in the car, he’d play Trouble by Elvis. Now Abel has that as his ringtone on his phone, and my dad used to have it on his phone.

“When I hear Abel’s phone ring, for a split second, I think my dad’s gonna walk into the room and say, ‘Who’s that on the phone?'” Paul died of a sudden cardiac arrhythmia at the age of 67 at his home in Aldington near Ashford on March 28.

He was laid to rest on April 20, with the funeral including a guard of honour with dogs from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home to mark the deep affection he had for his furry friends.

The star, whose ITV show For The Love of Dogs was hugely popular, became an ambassador for the charity more than a decade ago, making the honour a fitting tribute.

A fund set up by Battersea following his death rose to an impressive £270,0000 for the charity, proving just how popular the television personality was for his beloved fans.

Despite originally hailing from Merseyside, Paul’s funeral procession took place in what had become his home town of Aldington in Kent.

Thousands of members of the public lined the streets to say goodbye to the star one last time as the coffin passed through.

During this year’s National Television Awards, host Joel Dommett took a moment to celebrate the comedian’s life.

He said: “Now, before we go on, here at the National Television Awards we wanted to remember someone very special.

As the audience erupted into applause, the host continued to praise the late star. He added: “Nominated an astonishing 28 times for an NTA, his first nearly 30 years ago.

“His career came in many guises, but no matter what he did there was always kindness, coupled with a unique sense of fun that won over audiences in an instant.

“Here’s a reminder of why we all love him so, so much,” before viewers were shown a heartwarming compilation video from over the years.”
