The chilling proof The Simpsons predictions aren't just 'coincidences'

Is the question that’s on everybody’s lips: just how does The Simpsons predict the future?

For the uninitiated, the long-running cartoon has been credited with predicting many major world events, including the sinking of the Titanic sub, years before they took place.

The show, which follows the antics of Marge, Homer, Lisa, Bart and Maggie Simpson, as well as other Springfield residents, was also spot-on about Elon Musk rebranding Twitter to X and Greta Gerwig’s feminist reimagining of Barbie.

But just how do they do it? Well, according to YouTube channel Chuppl there is one simple explanation.

The team argues The Simpsons’ accurate predictions are all down to the writers’ background, explaining that most have backgrounds in maths and social sciences and therefore well versed in trends.

In The Simpsons Conspiracy: How They Predict The Future, the host said: ‘Unlike most other shows, The Simpsons writing team consists largely of writers who are extremely educated in fields ranging from mathematics to social sciences because of this they are also really connected to those that are on the cutting edge.’

As an example, they singled out writer David Cohen who studied physics at Harvard and decided to ditch a career in academia to pursue writing.

The YouTubers also explained The Simpsons writers ‘always ensure the mathematics was right’ and even contacted relevant experts, such as Columbia University astrologer David Schiminovich.

David was enlisted to create the equation Homer writes on the blackboard at the start of a 1998 episode, which predicted the mass of Higgs boson more than a decade before physicists at Cern did so.

Using a graph, the Chuppl team worked out it takes on average about 13 years for The Simpsons predictions to come true.

The data also revealed that most of the accurate predictions are written by writers with maths degrees, backing up their earlier theory.

The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean previously suggested to Metro.co.uk that the team didn’t have a sixth sense and were seeing into the future and instead were making ‘educated guesses.’

‘Most of the other things like Trump being President or Brazil winning the world cup are educated guesses,’ he told us.

‘Trump was considering being President back in the 90s. We wanted Germany to win because we went to Brazil to lose and Germany was the next best bet for the World Cup.

‘So, a lot of the things that we predicted are just, unfortunately, things you could see coming.’

Other The Simpsons predictions have included claims of voter fraud that have shaken politics, the horse meat scandal, and even the Covid-19 pandemic.

What will be next?

The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney Plus.
