Big Brother in hot water already as fans wont be watching over big change

Big Brother fans are not too happy over a big change to the show – so much so they’ve threatened not to tune in.

The iconic series makes its epic return to ITV screens on Sunday evening (October 8). Fronted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, the programme welcomes a brand new batch of housemates moving into the famous house.

And on Friday (October 6) the nation was finally treated to a first look at the new crib. The snazzy eco-friendly house boasts a huge living room and extravagant outside space – complete with a legendary jacuzzi.

However, ahead of the first show, it seems people are gutted that bosses have scrapped the “best part” of the programme. And some once-loyal fans claim they won't be watching the new series.

According to reports, the show has axed the iconic smoking area. Past series included a smoking area in the garden – where a lot of the drama and gossip went down. But this year’s housemates instead have a closed-off room to smoke with no cameras, bar a microphone.

Hearing the news, fans were fuming over the change. Rushing over to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person penned: “The fact that Big Brother won’t have a smoking area is a crime against humanity.”

Someone else added: “The smoking area was the best part of Big Brother. Everyone would sit there at night and talk pure s***e for hours.”

A third chimed in and proclaimed: “Not sure this is a good idea as the smoking area is where we got most of the gossip.” Another fan quipped: “Gutted won’t be watching now.”

Echoing their thoughts, a fifth penned: “I’m so disappointed in @ITV for not including a smoking area in Big Brother the best gossip and deep chats happen over a cuppa and a fag.” A sixth agreed: “Big brother without the smoking area loses so much. Not looking forward to it as much now."

On Friday (October 6), Good Morning Britain's showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold gave fans a look inside the house. He shared with viewers that "the living area is absolutely vast. There are two huge sofas, it’s the biggest communal area that I’ve ever seen in a Big Brother house over the years.”

The TV star also explained how the show's commitment to sustainability has had an impact on the interior design of this year's house, Richard said: "There’s a bath on a plinth. Initially they were going to have a clear bath but it would have to come from China and the key message here in the house this year is sustainability."

Richard also showed viewers a water tank that will collect rainwater, "which undoubtedly ends up in the jacuzzi." Continuing his tour the raving reporter said: "The diary room is a sight to behold, it's the biggest chair that I’ve ever seen." He also revealed there's an off-camera smoking area and an outdoor fireplace, which this year’s participants will occupy from Sunday.

Big Brother: The Launch will air this Sunday at 9pm on ITV1, STV, ITV2 and ITVX
