A guest who featured on Antiques Roadshow has been left stunned after his watch box was found to be worth a small fortune.
The guest, who had starred on the American version of the BBC show, named Appraisal, met with auctioneer Peter Planes. Together, the pair discussed the guests' watch, which was revealed to be a GMT Master Model Rolex.
During the conversation, the guest admitted that he had bought the watch over sixty years ago in 1960. Considering the condition of the watch, he had thought he would not expect the value of the watch to be more than $1,500.

But expert Peter soon delighted the lucky guest when he revealed that the watch and the box it was cased in was worth a lot more than what he had expected. Giving the watch an inspection, Peter broke the news: "I’m very pleased to tell you that this watch today at auction is a very, very collectable watch.
"Just the watch on its own merit would be worth today between $35,000 and $45,000," he revealed, leaving the man astounded. "But this watch is worth much more because you saved the box and all the paperwork for it."
Peter went on to say that due to the guests' care for the box and the documents to authenticate the watch, the piece of wristwear would be worth between $65,000 and $75,000 on the market. He added that the money would be "probably more than a month's pay in the military right now".
The guest was left completely speechless as he tried to comprehend the staggering amount the watch was worth. "Wow, I had no idea. I'm speechless. If you would have told me $1,500 – I would have been happy."
Antiques Roadshow – and its international counterparts – is well known for the surprising value that otherwise forgotten treasures can contain. However, not all of the valuations are positive, and can leave guests feeling disappointed.
Another expert Geoffrey Munn had some awkward news for a guest who had brought in a ring that was "beyond rare". The guest had said that the ring had been given to his father by a great uncle, who had then passed it onto him.
Geoffrey agreed that the unusual-looking piece of jewellery was "extremely rare". However, things soon went downhill from there, as the expert lamented: "[Your great uncle] was a great collector, and we don't know any more than that I'm afraid."
Munn explained that while the ring takes the form of a metal ring along the lines of gold, it was actually made of quill, which he explained was "that sort of plasticky end of a feather". He then valued the item at a modest £600, based on its rarity.
