All Creatures Great and Small season 4 trailer
It looks as though All Creatures Great and Small’s James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralf) could have his future at Skeldale House under threat.
In the latest instalment of the Channel 5 period drama, viewers were introduced to new veterinary student Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose) as James’ assistant.
Taking over from Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse), who is currently fighting in the war, it looked as though he was going to clash with Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West).
However, over the duration of the episode, it was clear the pair had struck up an unlikely friendship, leaving James feeling second best.
During the episode, James and Richard appeared to butt heads over Mrs Pumphrey’s (Patricia Hodge) dog Cedric.

Dealing with the slightly embarrassing issue of flatulence, James believed the main cause was a change of environment and suggested exercise would help.
Although Richard was sure the dog’s problem could’ve been sorted through a change in diet.
Calling Siegfried over for his opinion, the vet agreed with the newcomer as James was seething that his professional opinion was being questioned.
Despite differences being put aside when the trio had to deal with a horse being impaled, it’s clear James feels as though his place by Siegfried’s side is threatened.

Although Richard and Siegfried seem to be getting along for now, actor James Anthony-Rose teased there could be tensions ahead.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media publications, he said: “In many ways, Carmody is like a mini Siegfried initially.
“He comes in and Siegfried has kind of met his match so it was interesting to look at Sam’s portrayal of Siegfried and see certain parallels there.
“But I think even Siegfried realises that this kid is a bit too close to the bone for him almost, he recognises the similarities and doesn’t like the reflection and so he tries to teach him a thing or two.”
However, there was some good news for James at the end of the episode as his wife Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton) discovered she was pregnant.
Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, @claraxgm said: “OMG I’M SO HAPPY FOR THEM.”
@sapphicstirling added: “Baby Herriot, I love you so much already.”
@NomadicWriter commented: “Two to become three. Marvellous. Another fantastic episode @AllCreaturesTV Roll on next week’s episode.“
All Creatures Great and Small continues on Thursdays on Channel 5 from 9pm.
