First Dates host Fred Sirieix was all smiles in a new snap taken from his hospital bed.
The 51-year-old TV star shared a candid health update with fans on Instagram this week after going into hospital for two uncomfortable procedures. Fred needed to have a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy to discover the cause of an iron deficiency, which emerged in a blood test.
Fred could be seen wearing a white hospital gown and giving fans the 'peace' sign after his painful-sounding procedures. Another photo showed the maître d' dressed and posing with his consultant.

The First Dates host admitted he was "stressed out" by the mere thought of the procedures and debated whether or not to go under sedation for them. However, he decided he didn't want to take any drugs that he did not need.
In part of his caption, he wrote: "Prior to the procedures I was debating what to do. To sedate or not to sedate? Is it needed? Would I feel unbearable pain if I did not have it? Or would the pain actually come from the fear and anxiety associated with such procedures? You see I do not believe nor want to take drugs I do not need.
"I’m busy and can’t afford to take 24 hours off just because I’m scared of a simple tube and camera going from my mouth to my stomach and another going from my bum to the end of my colon. Still. No point to be a hero for nothing". He admitted the gastrocopy was "awful" as it makes you "gag", but luckily it only lasted for five minutes.

He added: "The colonoscopy is easy peasy in contrast. A bit weird I must admit because it is up your bum but we all have one and c’est la vie. However it is NOT painful. It lasts about 20/30 minutes". Fans flocked to the comments to offer their support to Fred after his procedures.
One fan wrote: "Thanks for sharing your experience Fred, you probably saved someone from feeling unnecessarily scared of the procedure". Another commented: "I thought the prep for the colonoscopy was the worst bit!! Hope you're ok xx."
