Taking over T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada once again, the UFC put on UFC 296 with its latest pay-per-view event in Las Vegas. In the main event, Leon Edwards successfully put together his second UFC Welterweight Championship defense against Colby Covington.
Building off of a heated prefight news conference earlier this week, Edwards met Covington in the Octagon and dominated for a technical victory. Shutting down Covington, Edwards controlled the fight even handling the fight on the ground. The result was a Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) for champion Leon Edwards (22-3, 1 NC), leaving Covington (17-4) with three losses in his last five fights.
In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja successfully defended his UFC Flyweight Championship in a Unanimous Decision over Brandon Royval. While fans were disappointed after Paddy Pimblett defeated Tony Ferguson by Unanimous Decision earlier in the night.
