Johnny Marr slams British Airways for flight catastrophe

Johnny Marr has slammed British Airways for not giving his guitar back after axing his flight.

The Smiths legend was supposed to fly to Gothenburg for Way Out West festival last week but claimed on Twitter that his flight was scrapped because of a technical fault.

The 59-year-old added that he was waiting for his instruments to be returned as they’d been checked in.

But after an hour of a no-show on the luggage carousel, Marr hit Twitter, slamming the airline.

The rocker wrote on August 11: ‘Unfortunately British Airways have cancelled our flight to Gothenburg because of a fault with the plane.

‘This means we can’t get to our show at Way Out West festival tomorrow.’

Marr added: ‘My apologies to everyone who was excited to see us. See you next time.’

He also uploaded a photo of himself waiting at baggage claim and tweeted BA saying: ‘@British_Airways any chance of my guitars yet? #releasethejags.’

A BA spokesperson replied: ‘Hi Johnny, we’re sorry to see that you’re still waiting for your baggage.

‘Hopefully, the airport team will be able to get these back to you as soon as possible. Steven.’

Marr fired back: ‘Hello Steven. Thanks for your soothing message. So it’s not enough that I have to cancel a show and let people down without British Airways offering to help us out, plus my crew losing the work. Then you lose our guitars? Nice. #releasethejags.’

Tagging airline Ryanair in another tweet, Marr then quipped: ‘Anyone at Ryanair wanna come down and show British Airways how it’s done?’

Fans were quick to poke fun at Marr’s misery, with one saying: ‘There Is A Flight And It Never Goes Out,’ while another added, ‘Looks like heaven knows you’re all miserable now.’

‘When you are asking Ryanair to help out, you know you’ve got problems,’ someone else tweeted.
