Dr. Martens is celebrating a significant milestone in 2023, marking the 10th anniversary of its iconic Jadon Boot. Following its collaborations with Supreme and Born X Raised, Dr. Martens is joining Copenhagen’s GANNI for an explosive footwear partnership.
GANNI and Dr. Martens confidently take on the rebellious style, hiking it up with platformed soles and “Fabrics of the Future.” Dr. Martens’ Jadon Boot receives an upcycled treatment designed with repurposed and sustainable textiles for a bold look. The leather-free uppers feature breathable technology with rear zippers for easy access. Bold yellow stitching adds vibrancy to the collaboration, while GANNI’s butterfly logos tonal enhance the medials and joint branding arrives on the tongues.
Reinforced toe boxes and mudguards increase outdoor protection, completing the design with clasp-like eyelets, spotted laces, and enlarged rubber sole units. The campaign is ruthlessly chaotic, capturing the coveted boot in battle-ready scenarios.
Speaking exclusively to Hypebeast, Ditte Reffstrup, Creative Director of GANNI, and Dr. Martens’ Global Creative Director, Daren Leon McKoy say:
Ditte Reffstrup: “For me personally, growing up in the ’90s, which was my teenage era, and being obsessed with Brit-pop, it’s been such an honor to be invited to reinterpret their classic Jadon Boot. With the anniversary shoe, we have worked to merge GANNI’s world of Scandi 2.0 with Dr. Martens’ rebellious legacy. We hope this fusion gives a fresh take on the cult classic boot, offering something for our whole community. We’re excited that this collaboration will run in extended sizes from EU 36-48.
The design process was inspired by a tribute to Dr. Martens’ legacy, particularly the Jadon boot. I drew inspiration from my ’90s teenage years, infusing the boots with the brand’s butterfly logo and dual branding. Sustainability was a focus, using recycled materials like polyester and leather-free rubber options. The design incorporates classic Dr. Martens elements, such as yellow welt stitching and GANNI’s signature boot nose and butterfly logo, resulting in a boot that feels like the best of both worlds.”
Daren Leon McKoy: “Celebrating the Jadon’s 10th year means the world to me personally, and we decided to round off the year of celebration by partnering with Ganni. The original concept for the Jadon platform was a canvas for self-expression and alternative self-narrative. It’s been fantastic to see our creation being adopted by so many subcultures over the last decade that I am happy to create this beautiful yet tough-looking boot with Ganni. They keep pushing the boundaries in their community when it comes to mixing the look, the vibe, and the aesthetic, all to the sharpest edges; I feel like we share those same values.
New York City holds a special place for Dr. Martens; it’s the city of celebration, crazy levels of individualism and creativeness, and community power. Again, a city where Dr. Martens’ can call home. Lola Leon’s performance was wicked! It really brought a lot of excitement.
The initial starting point was really about celebrating and respecting the Jadon as an icon. Blending the core principles of both brands helped us make clever choices for the materials and finishing. This Jadon is a mix of GANNI’s ultra-feminine style and Dr. Marten’s attitude.”
The GANNI x Dr. Martens Jadon Boot will be available on December 1 via GANNI, Dr. Martens, and select retailers for $305 USD.
