Over the weekend, Elon Musk revealed that his long-awaited startup xAI had engineered its own chatbot, Grok. A competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Grok is currently in the beta phase and is being tested with a select group of sample users.
While the bot isn’t available to the public just yet, Musk shared some additional information on Grok.
For starters, once it exits beta, Grok will be available exclusively to X Premium+ subscribers. The most expensive of X’s subscription tiers, Premium+ is a step up from the regular Premium plan and two steps up from the Basic, at $16 USD a month or $168 USD per year.
Musk also lauds the AI bot as having access to real-time information, something ChatGPT is being updated with currently but has notably lacked in the past.
“Grok has real-time access to info via the X platform, which is a massive advantage over other models,” he wrote.
In classic Musk style, users can also expect Grok’s answers to be infused with the X owner’s irony-laden humor.
Stay tuned for more updates on the forthcoming launch of Grok to the public.
In other tech news, X is reportedly selling recycled handles for $50,000 USD.
