Since 2010, A.P.C. has been turning excess material into quilts, aside from its catalog of mainline ready-to-wear items. The idea was birthed from Jessica Ogden and Jean Touitou’s interest in patchwork alongside fabric revival. With it, each year has seen iterations of unique quilts that promote environmental equity alongside useful household items. Now Touitou’s A.P.C. is back with Round 24.<\/p>\n
The latest round of quilts takes inspiration from the painting of Irish-American artist, Sean Scully. Filled with vibrant colors, Scully’s work moves between the period of geometric abstraction and hard-edge painting. “After the complex concept of Series 23, his minimalist works spoke to me, with their sort of subtle, rhythmic breathing and unexpected color choices,” said Ogden. As such the quilts and cushions which have been crafted from leftover A.P.C. fabrics illustrate a refined degree of geometric shapes and graphic interplay.<\/p>\n
Furthering their originality, Touitou named the patchworks in this collection after stars who have done time. To bring the project to life, the latest collection was shot by Alfredo Piola in several urban environments around Barcelona that mirrored the pieces’ geometric designs.<\/p>\n
