THE Grand Tour star Jeremy Clarkson recently gave fans a health update – including the potential 'double risk of dementia'.

The host of Clarkson’s Farm opened up about his health concerns and shared that 'most of his body' is starting to fail him.

Jeremy, 63, has decided to open up in his column for The Times titled Age Even Makes Going for a Walk Complicated.

In the piece, he explained his struggles with his balance and other medical issues, such as suffering from a sore back and his hearing, which is the biggest problem he is battling with as it leads to a concern that he will develop dementia.

The TV star explained: "The worst problem I have, though, is with my ears.

"This has been going on for 12 years, and, being a tolerant sort of guy, I’ve coped. But I was told after my most recent medical that hearing loss will double the chance of me catching dementia.”

Jeremy revealed that his risk of dementia is above average due to his brain working harder than most to decipher sounds.

He also disclosed what the doctors told him: "My brain is having to use a huge amount of computing power trying to fill in the bits of speech it hasn’t been able to hear."

According to the NHS, a person with severe untreated hearing loss is five times more likely to develop dementia, while a person with moderate hearing loss is three times more likely to get the illness.

The car expert also penned out how he has tried to tackle the issue and reduce his chances of catching dementia.

Jeremy said: "I will be using hearing aids. They’re very snazzy and extremely clever."

Jeremy was flooded with support in the comments section of the article, with one fan writing: "So brave of you to talk about this – so few people are aware of the correlation between hearing and dementia."

A second echoed: "You're a total trooper – I had no idea about the risks of letting bad hearing go untreated."

While a third chimed in: "I'm in the same boat – all we can do is persevere!"

The former Top Gear host has been looking after his fitness, too, hiring a personal trainer last May.

Discussing that moment, Jeremy wrote: "None of the shirts in my wardrobe fit any longer [and] I can barely do up my shoelaces.”

He even joked: "I've been going for walks every day, but while some of them are seven or eight miles long, I'm not sure they're doing much good.

"The problem is that I pootle along extremely slowly, and when I get tired, I slow down even more."

The presenter disclosed in the column that the PT might not have been the best personal choice for him as he penned: "People who do this sort of thing for fun say that if you really push your body, you are rewarded with a euphoric high that's better than any drug.

He added: "I just felt terribly weary,"

"And I neither looked nor felt any better than I had done when the session started."

Earlier this year, Jeremy also shared that his decades-old smoking habit had seen his GP warn him to ‘quit immediately’ over fears of an ‘agonising premature death’.

</picture>LAST LAP
