TOP Gear's sudden axe after Freddie Flintoff's crash has left fans devastated- but there could be good news<\/strong> to come. <\/p>\n

Insiders of the long-running BBC show insist it will make a dramatic return to TV screens in just two years' time.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The BBC announced yesterday they were\u00a0planning a new project with the Top Gear star.<\/p>\n

They say "resting" the show for now is "the right thing to do" – but claim the show has not been cancelled for good.<\/p>\n

It comes after former\u00a0England\u00a0cricket\u00a0captain\u00a0Freddie, 45, was seriously injured in a horror 124mph crash while filming last December.<\/p>\n

\u201cTop Gear will return and it could be as soon as a couple of years", a source told the Mirror.<\/p>\n

"Everyone involved knows the loyal fans will be dismayed. <\/p>\n

"But it\u2019s only temporary.\u201d <\/p>\n

Filming for the show Flintoff co-presents with\u00a0Paddy McGuinness\u00a0and automotive journalist\u00a0Chris Harris\u00a0was halted after the crash 11 months ago.<\/p>\n

Following the accident, the BBC announced that continuing filming would be \u201cinappropriate\u201d, adding there would be a\u00a0health\u00a0and safety\u00a0review.<\/p>\n

Flintoff reached a settlement\u00a0with the BBC, said to be worth \u00a39m.<\/p>\n

The brave star's\u00a0facial injuries were visible\u00a0while he helped out the\u00a0England cricket team\u00a0in training this summer.<\/p>\n

In a statement yesterday, the BBC said: \u201cGiven the exceptional circumstances, the BBC has decided to rest the UK show for the foreseeable future. <\/p>\n

"We know that resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
