The singer-songwriter will be writing the score for a musical based on Walter Tevis\u2019s 1983 novel, which follows the journey of young chess prodigy Beth Harmon during the Cold War era.<\/p>\n<p>The novel was adapted into a hit Netflix miniseries in 2020, starring Anya Taylor-Joy stars as Harmon, an orphan, who quickly rises through the ranks of the male-dominated scene of competitive chess. and the plans for a stage production were announced the following year. As the composer, Mitski joins a team led by scriptwriter Eboni Booth, who wrote the off-Broadway play <em>Primary Trust<\/em>, and director Whitney White, who is currently directing the Broadway production <em>JaJa\u2019s African Hair Braiding.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore [production company] Level Forward even brought the idea of making a musical of <em>The Queen\u2019s Gambit,<\/em> I was a fan of the Netflix show, and an even greater fan of the original novel. So I was already determined to be a member of this team,\u201d Mitski told <em>Deadline<\/em> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then I met Eboni and Whitney, and my determination grew tenfold! I absolutely had to be a part of this!
