A mother whose weight crept up to nearly 230 pounds after giving birth to three children has opened up about how she lost more than 80 pounds ‘naturally.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Amy Fritz, 31, from Ohio, was experiencing joint pain and was worried about her health when she embarked on her weight-loss journey in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nine months later, the home and garden influencer is down to 142 pounds and recently completed a half marathon after developing a passion for running.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fritz shared how she transformed her body in less than a year in a video\u00a0posted on her eponymous YouTube channel, which has more than 122,000 subscribers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She then used\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>calorie calculator to see how many calories she should be eating to lose weight.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fritz didn’t follow a specific diet plan, but she did aim to eat high-protein meals while counting calories.\u00a0<\/p>\n She also started moving her body, first by walking and then running.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fritz now runs and lifts weights.<\/p>\n ‘I can say that my\u00a0life looks so different, and I am so thankful for the journey,’ she said of her weight loss.<\/p>\n Fritz explained that she lived an active lifestyle growing up and played tennis competitively throughout college.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘My diet was not perfect by any means, but I was never overweight,’ she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n After she got married and became a mom, she noticed her weight increasing a little bit each year.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘I was eating all the same things, but my pants weren’t fitting, and I was really struggling to bounce back after my third baby,’ she recalled.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ‘You mix that with being postpartum and the pandemic hitting, I was just not living an active lifestyle.’<\/span><\/p>\n The 5-foot-6 lifestyle guru estimated that she put on\u00a0about 60 pounds in the span of two years and had to shop in the plus-size section for the first time in her life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ‘I was putting weight on like crazy. I felt like my hormones were really out of balance. I was no longer getting a period,’ she explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ‘Crazy things were happening to my body, and I could feel it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ‘My knees hurt \u2014 things that shouldn’t be happening in your late 20s and early 30s started happening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ‘I was scared. I was scared for my health, and I was insecure. I would not go over that number no matter what,’ she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘If you’re in a deficit of 500 calories [or] 1,000 calories over several months, you’re going to see the weight come off. That’s just basic science.’<\/p>\n Fritz noted that she was intermittent fasting when she started her weight-loss journey and only ate two meals a day between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 a.m.<\/p>\n She now has a more intuitive approach to eating and will have breakfast if she is feeling famished after a workout.\u00a0<\/p>\n The content creator said she also set a goal for herself to drink a gallon of water a day. Although she continues to have her morning coffee, she no longer drinks calorific sweet teas and sodas.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘At dinner time, I aim for a lower-carb diet. I stick to lean meats and veggies for dinner just because I found that makes me feel better the next day,’ she explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fritz noted that she was intermittent fasting when she started her weight-loss journey and only ate two meals a day between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 a.m.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ‘At dinner time, I aim for a lower-carb diet. I stick to lean meats and veggies for dinner just because I found that makes me feel better the next day,’ she explained<\/p>\n Fritz shared that she prefers calorie counting to following a specific diet because she didn’t have to cut out any foods.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘If I wanted to eat a sandwich with bread, I could eat a sandwich with bread. I just had to track it. If I wanted to eat a piece of pizza, I could. I just had to track it,’ she said.<\/p>\n Fritz recalled how she used to get a spicy chicken sandwich with large fries and a soda at Chick-fil-A a few times a week.\u00a0<\/p>\n She now gets a grilled chicken sandwich wrapped in lettuce, a side salad, a small fry, and a diet drink when she visits the fast-food chain with her kids.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fritz has also ‘fallen in love with fitness again’ since she overhauled her lifestyle back in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n She noted that she was significantly overweight and out of shape at the time, so she started slowly by walking with a friend at the gym three mornings a week.\u00a0<\/p>\n When Fritz started her transformation in January, she eased into working out by walking at the gym.\u00a0She now runs four to five days a week and lifts weights two to three days a week<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fritz ran a half marathon in September and placed third in her age group after finishing the 13.1-mile race in one hour and 52 minutes\u00a0<\/p>\n When spring arrived, she took her workouts outside and began incorporating jogging and running into her walking routine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Fritz explained that she did what her body could, and by the end of the month, she was able to run three miles at a slow pace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To push herself even further, she signed up to run a half marathon in September.<\/span><\/p>\n Not only did she complete the 13.1-mile race, but she also placed third in her age group after finishing in one hour and 52 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Fritz advised finding a workout that you love ‘so exercise never feels like a chore.’ She now runs four to five days a week and lifts weights two to three days a week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ‘There are times that I feel good and the scale doesn’t reflect that, and I’ve learned that that’s okay,’ she concluded.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘The scale is going to go up and down a little bit. It just is. That’s life… But if you’re making the right choices, and you feel good at the end of the day, nothing else really matters.’<\/p>\n
