CORONATION Street star Joan Savage has died aged 89.<\/p>\n

The actress is understood to have passed away peacefully at Brinsworth House in Twickenham, south west London, earlier this month.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

Joan played dancer Celeste Pickersgill during a brief stint in Coronation Street in 2000.<\/p>\n

She was took a fancy to Norris Cole after they were paired together during a competition hosted at the Tower Ballroom.<\/p>\n

Joan also appeared in an episode of Dad's Army in 1972 and featured in The Arthur Haynes Show over a seven-year period during an illustrious TV career spanning six decades.<\/p>\n

Born in January 1934, Joan accompanied comedic dad Norman around local clubs across the north of England.<\/p>\n

She went on to join the Blackpool Children's Tower Ballet and Blackpool Tower Circus aged just 12.<\/p>\n

Joan would ride elephants, roller skate and perform songs across a wide variety of performances, paving the way for an appearance on Mr Ronnie Taylor's Variety Fanfare on BBC Radio.<\/p>\n

She also went on tour as the leading lady in a George and Alfred Black entertainment show named Music and Madness, The Blackpool Gazette reports.<\/p>\n

During the tour, she met fellow performer Ken Morris, whom she would later marry in Blackpool in 1955.<\/p>\n

The couple later established a successful double act, appearing in a number of TV adverts and shows including The Jack Jackson Show and The Black and White Minstrel Show.<\/p>\n

They had their first child, daughter Kelly, together in March 1960.<\/p>\n

Husband Ken sadly passed away in July 1969 following a brain tumour diagnosis.<\/p>\n

But Joan would go on to establish herself as one of the UK's most popular entertainers, continuing to perform a raft of songs and impersonations in summer shows and concerts, as well as on cruise ships.<\/p>\n

She went on to marry Bryan in November 1972 and is survived by daughter Kelly and grandsons Mark and Simon.<\/p>\n

In all, she appeared in more than 350 TV shows and was awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 2008.<\/p>\n
