Halloween is the one day of the year where people traditionally embrace the idea of the supernatural, and even dress up in homage to spooky characters.

However, some celebrities don’t need to wait for Halloween to embrace otherworldly expreiences.

Many well known names have spoken out about their paranormal experiences.

Stars as diverse as Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson, to acclaimed Harry Potter actress Helena Bonham Carter have all recounted their brushes with the supernatural.

Whether it’s living in a house they believe to be haunted, or researching a real-life character from beyond the grave, their experiences are truly hair raising.

Express.co.uk has compiled some of the most mind boggling and outlandish celebrity ghost encounters.

Simon Gregson

Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald in the ITV soap, was so convinced that his house was haunted that he called in ghost hunters from the Discovery TV show, Help My House Is Haunted.

The star, along with his wife Emma and eldest son Alfie, all encountered a woman in white in their six-bedroom family home in Chesire.

“My wife Emma, my eldest son, Alfie, and I have seen a woman who’s dressed in white and crosses the landing by the stairs.

“One time, about 1.30am, I saw her go across. First I thought it was Emma coming in after a night out with her friends.

“When I rang to ask if it was her, she replied, ‘No, you’re going to tell me you’ve seen a woman crossing the landing, aren’t you? I’ve seen her, too!’

“Alfie has seen the most, though. He’s told us he’s seen a woman outside his room and what looked like the heads of children poking around the door.”

However, he recently revealed to TV presenter Lucy Kennedy on her show Living With Lucy that the ghost hunters had gotten rid of her.

Helena Bonham Carter

Acclaimed actress Helena Bonham Carter took playing Princess Margaret in The Crown very seriously. So much so that she contacted the late Royal through a psychic medium in order to seek her approval.

“My main thing when you play someone who is real, you kind of want their blessing because you have a responsibility,” Bonham Carter said at the Cheltenham Literature Festival in 2019.

“She said, apparently, she was glad it was me [playing her] … ‘You’re better than the other actress’ … that they were thinking of. They will not admit who it was. It was me and somebody else.

“That made me think maybe she is here, because that is a classic Margaret thing to say. She was really good at complimenting you and putting you down at the same time.”

Seemingly, Margaret also gave her advice about how to play the role.

“Then she said, ‘Get the smoking right. I smoked in a very particular way … the cigarette holder was as much a weapon for expression as it was for smoking,’ ” the English actress recalled.
