Love Island winner Sammy Root has revealed that his dad warned him about spending all the prize money.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old took home a whopping \u00a350,000 with his ex-girlfriend Jess Harding, after they won season 10 of the ITV2 in the summer of 2023.<\/p>\n

Sammy and Jess both returned from Spain the the UK with \u00a325,000 each, as the couple decided to split the prize money equally.<\/p>\n

The former project manager admitted that he quit his day job to appear on the show but has said that he may return to his career one day.<\/p>\n

He has also confessed that he has been "sensible" with his prize money, after receiving a stark warning from his dad.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Mirror, Sammy revealed he has received his share of the prize and has spent it wisely.<\/p>\n

He confessed: "I have been careful because I am a very sensible person with my money as it is. Growing up, my dad would not let me throw it away. <\/p>\n

"So not much, I brought my mum a necklace when I got out and treated the family to a meal and stuff. Other than that, I have been keeping it safe."<\/p>\n

While Sammy and Jess decided to share the prize money, in previous years, couples were given the chance to steal the money off their partner.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, each member of the winning couple was given a golden envelope. One had \u00a350,000 written inside and the other had \u00a30.<\/p>\n

The Islander who got the \u00a350,000 envelope then had to decide whether they would share the money with their partner – or whether they would steal it all for themselves. <\/p>\n

Every year, the winning couples have decided to split the cash evenly as they choose love over money.<\/p>\n

The couple shocked fans when they announced their split just months after winning the show.<\/p>\n

At the time, Sammy released a statement saying: "To be totally clear – I at least wanted a face to face conversation to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be a respectful way forward.<\/p>\n

"We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess. <\/p>\n

"I was committed and respectful to our relationship. Unfortunately things don't always work out the way you'd hoped."<\/p>\n

Now Sammy is said to have set his sights on charity work and he has sine admitted that he wouldn't say no to another stint on TV.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
