I think it\u2019s rubbish to look increasingly tired and ragged when it\u2019s not how I feel.<\/p>\n<p>Looking and feeling well is a joy and a pleasure, and how we get there is our own choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But I don\u2019t want to spend loads of money, or advise anyone else to, on stuff that will not make a difference. Sometimes, \u2018cheating\u2019 is a lot more effective than falling for empty promises.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, in the process of ageing, the skin around the eyes is up to ten times thinner than the skin on the rest of the face, so it gets clobbered first.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sagging, etched-in lines, discolouration, hollowed-out and puffed-up bits will show here before they do anywhere else.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/00\/76316205-12607905-image-a-20_1696806015802.jpg\" height=\"951\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Beauty expert Inge\u00a0van Lotringen believes that looking and feeling well is a joy and a pleasure, and how we get there is our own choice<\/p>\n<p>Problem is, no eye cream is going to reverse that process once it\u2019s set in. You can keep it at bay and slow it down, but ageing eye skin is too delicate for any topicals to actually \u2018lift\u2019 it, smooth deep wrinkles and eradicate dark circles.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, quick-fix products that tackle these issues quite successfully, albeit temporarily, are increasingly readily available.<\/p>\n<p>These are the products I use to \u2018retouch\u2019 my bleary eyes while I pluck up the courage to have a surgical eyelift (because I\u2019m sure I will)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span>For eye bags<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bloated under-eyes are largely a case of slack microcirculation and lymph drainage. Anything cool will help de-bloat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The swipe-on Embryolisse Radiant Eye Express Cooling and Refreshing Stick (\u00a317.25, escentual.com), chills eye bags without (puff-inducing) irritants such as alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>One step up, there\u2019s Mantle The Eye De-Puffer (\u00a350, hellomantle.co.uk), a light serum with circulation-boosting caffeine and vitamin C and a subtle sheeny tint to settle bleariness fast.<\/p>\n<p>Most impressive of all, It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Bags Rapid Bag Reducer (\u00a333, boots.com), is just that thanks to polymers that form an invisible film that tightens and smoothes skin, but leaves it flexible.<\/p>\n<p><span>For crepiness<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Under-eye crepiness in particular is (temporarily) wiped out with Peter Thomas Roth Instant FirmX Temporary Eye Tightener (\u00a332, cultbeauty.co.uk).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Really quite powerful, it smoothes crows\u2019 feet and has peptides, vitamin A and anti-inflammatories to boost collagen.<\/p>\n<p>If you feel dehydration is to blame for crinkly eyes, under-eye patches can give a plumping boost.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My favourites are Voya Renewal Eyes Seaweed Eye Masks (\u00a332, voya.ie). Literally just dehydrated seaweed leaves, you soak them in water before sticking them under your eyes. Seaweed is renowned for its quenching, collagen-boosting properties.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To soften lines long-term, look at retinoids. They must be carefully formulated so as not to cause inflammation. Try Medik8 Crystal Retinal Eye 3 (\u00a342, medik8.com).<\/p>\n<p><span>For dark circles<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Caused by pigmentation or dilated blood vessels, dark circles are a nightmare to minimise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eye surgeon-devised Dr Sabrina Perfect 360 Dark Circle Corrector System (\u00a3150, drsabrina.com), is probably your best-formulated two-step chance to see long-term brightening, with an illuminating serum and SPF50 cream, but you can get instant satisfaction from temporary fixes.<\/p>\n<p>Gatineau Miracle Eye Contour Cream (\u00a334, sephora.co.uk), hydrates and protects and adjusts to skin tone to blur lines and cover discolouration.<\/p>\n<p>Ciat\u00e9 Extraordinary Brightening Undereye Perfector (\u00a332, ciatelondon.com), in three shades, strengthens delicate skin with seed oils and vitamins while blitzing dark circles with peachy, illuminating coverage.<\/p>\n<p><span>For sagging lids<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Forget \u2018lifting\u2019 eye creams, except for Instant FirmX (see Crepiness) which, applied to your top lids, will pull them up for several hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Or get to work with the new Foreo Bear 2 Eyes &amp; Lips (\u00a3189, foreo.com) which, while pricey, if used consistently will mildly reshape eye contours using microcurrents.<\/p>\n<p><span>For your kids<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The best thing to keep all of the above at arm\u2019s length is to use SPF formulated for the eye area from a young age.
