Sir Billy Connolly has shared that he\u2019s had \u2018a couple of serious falls\u2019 after his balance started deteriorating.<\/p>\n
The Scottish performer, 80, was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease a decade ago on the same day he found out he had prostate cancer, which he later received the all clear on.<\/p>\n
In the years since, he\u2019s been open about what it\u2019s like to live with the degenerative disease, sharing earlier this year that although there were difficulties, he had a \u2018jolly life\u2019 with \u2018no complaints\u2019.<\/p>\n
However now, a few months down the line Sir Billy and his wife Pamela Stephenson have spoken about the toll it\u2019s currently taking.<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s very difficult to see the progression exactly, because a lot of things come and go,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018Recently I\u2019ve noticed a deterioration in my balance.<\/p>\n

\u2018That was never such a problem before, but in the last year that has come and it has stayed.\u2019<\/p>\n
He added: \u2018For some reason, I thought it would go away, because a lot of symptoms have come and gone away \u2026 just to defy the symptom spotters.\u2019<\/p>\n
Sharing that \u2018the shaking has reappeared\u2026\u2019, his wife then added that his \u2018balance issue\u2019 had become a \u2018significant\u2019 hurdle.<\/p>\n
\u2018Especially since, unfortunately, it resulted in you having a couple of serious falls,\u2019 she added in an article they were jointly interviewed for in The Guardian.<\/p>\n

Sir Billy responded: \u2018It\u2019s funny, that fall I had when I landed on my jaw reminded me of a thing I used to do on stage.<\/p>\n
\u2018I used to say: \u201cI fell out of bed, but luckily my face broke my fall\u2026\u201d.\u2019<\/p>\n
He then said this was \u2018adding to the list of things that hold me back\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018I feel like I want to go for a walk, but I go for 50 yards and I want to go home, because I\u2019m tired,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m being encroached upon by this disease.<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s creeping up behind me and stopping me doing things. It\u2019s a cruel disease.\u2019<\/p>\n
While they said the progression of the disease had been \u2018pretty slow-moving\u2019, he said it didn\u2019t make it \u2018any more pleasant\u2019.<\/p>\n

Speaking about how their relationship has changed in the wake of Sir Billy\u2019s diagnosis, he shared how his wife now needed to help him get dressed in the morning and how he needed to now \u2018get lifts everywhere\u2019 as he \u2018can\u2019t drive any more\u2019.<\/p>\n
Back in 2021 Sir Billy detailed how Parkinson\u2019s had \u2018taken a lot\u2019 from him, including no longer being able to play the banjo.<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s just a noise. I can\u2019t yodel anymore. I can\u2019t smoke cigars. It\u2019s taken more and more of what I like \u2013 it\u2019s kind of painful,\u2019 he shared.<\/p>\n
But he said his approach was to \u2018have a Glasgow attitude\u2019 and \u2018deal with it\u2019.<\/p>\n
