Viewers are still in a state of shock after the cataclysmic events of Yellowstone’s season finale this year. With filming on the next instalment for Paramount hoped to escape major restrictions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, a clue on Instagram may have sealed the demise of Kayce Dutton ahead of the show’s return next year.
Filming on Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed neo-Western Yellowstone is currently steaming ahead in Montana.
The series has quelled concerns of major delays amid the outbreak of coronavirus and, if the situation remains stable, it’s hoped the dark family drama will make its return next summer.
However, after the drastic events of season three, Yellowstone could look like a very different show once the premiere of season four finally drops.
At the end of season three, the Dutton family was decimated after father and ranch owner John (played by Kevin Costner) was gunned down after assisting a motorist.
Meanwhile, Beth (Kelly Reilly) may have been killed by an explosive delivery, whilst Kayce (Luke Grimes) was last seen cowering from approaching gunmen.
While most fans are confident showrunner Taylor Sheridan isn’t about to kill off three of Yellowstone’s most crucial players, the finale certainly left viewers rattled.
During the ongoing hiatus, theories about the next season have been going wild, and some cryptic posts on Yellowstone’s official social media counts haven’t helped curtail the storm of speculation.
A recent post on the series’ Instagram account has prompted several members of the Yellowstone fanbase to don their detective hats.

The image features Kayce Dutton front and centre, with an intriguing caption teasing his role in the upcoming season.
Posted in September, the pic was captioned: “You mean to tell us it’s only Wednesday? Well, at least we have Kayce Dutton.”
While the tagline seemed to confirm Kayce will survive the attack at the end of season three, several fans have seen through the comment as a potential ruse.
The image caused considerable debate in the comments, with some fans hitting out against the blatant misdirect.

One follower said: “Do we have him? Y’all left us all wondering if he’s (and everyone else) is dead or alive.”
While another replied: “But do we? You said ‘have’ not had so that means he lives right??”
Semantics aside, Yellowstone’s recent promotion seems to confirm Kayce will still play a key part in the impending fourth season.
Some theories have even proposed John’s son will spearhead the Dutton posse’s revenge plan against their currently unknown assailants.
One more fan reasoned: “I think Kayce is the most likely one to live. He has experienced warfare and been in plenty of shootouts.
“He knows the office more than these assassins. His is the most controlled environment.”
Still, the Instagram post is particularly foreboding and, while fans are confident Kayce will return at the start of season four, there’s still a good chance he could be taken out midway through the series.
Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount.
