When will Gentleman Jack season 2 start and who will be in the cast alongside Suranne Jones?

BY the end of Gentleman Jack’s first season, Ann Walker and Anne Lister got their happy ending in the period drama after following through with their commitment ceremony.

And with the announcement that the show had been renewed for another series, when can we expect season two and who’s in the cast? Here’s the lowdown…

What’s the release date for season 2?

An official release date has yet to be announced.

Shortly after the first series started airing in the UK, HBO announced in May, 2019 that a second series had officially been ordered.

From what’s been gathered, there’ll be eight episodes in the forthcoming season, with production to commence later this year.

Knowing this, the show most likely won’t return until early summer 2020.

Following the show’s renewal, Suranne Jones said she was excited getting back to playing her character, having described the announcement as “positive news”.

“I’m so thrilled that I will be joining Sally Wainwright on the second part of Anne’s journey. We always dreamed there would be more and now we get to play it all out,” she said.

“A huge thank you to the BBC, HBO and Lookout Point for giving us our second series. It’s such amazing and positive news.

“I love working with the brilliant and talented Sophie Rundle and can’t wait to create some more Lister and Walker moments with her too”.

Who’s in the cast?

The cast list for season two hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s believed that the entire main cast is expected to return next season.

This would evidently mean that the likes of Suranne Jones, Sophie Rundle, Joe Armstrong and Amelia Bullmore will all be back next year.

Other popular characters expected to return include:

  • Rosie Cavaliero as Elizabeth Cordingley
  • Gemma Whelan as Marian Lister
  • Gemma Jones as Aunt Lister
  • Timothy West as Jeremy Lister
  • Tom Lewis as Thomas Snowden
  • Albane Courtois as Eugenie Pierre
