The Last Kingdom is the historical epic series on Netflix that recounts the life is Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon heir, when he is captured by the Danes, putting his loyalties to the test years later. The series has been renewed for a fifth season leaving fans to speculate what may happen. Uhtred may have a new decision to make, to choose between Stiorra (Ruby Hartley and Aethelflaed (Millie Brady).
Will Uhtred have to choose between Stiorra and Aethelflaed?
During season four, Uhtred spent more time with his children than previously seen in the show.
Uhtred’s loyalties are divided however, as his children have very different ambitions.
During the last season, Stiorra agreed to be used as a way to bring peace between the Danes and Saxons.
She chose to join Sigtryggr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson) and go to Eoferwic.
At this point in the series, Northumbria is the last kingdom to be held by the Danes, with East Anglia now controlled by Wessex and Mercia.
Regardless of the truce that Stiorra helped to bring, Aethelaed still wants to continue what her father sought to do and unify England.
This will put Uhtred in a difficult position, having to choose between his daughter, Stiorra or his love, Aethelaed.
As Eoferwic is controlled by the Danes, if Mercia and Wessex decide to invade, Stiorra is in the middle of the conflict.

Based on The Saxon Stories by author Bernard Cornwell, series five will take inspiration from the book series behind the show.
So far, the show has covered two books in the Cornwell series, with season four recounting the events of The Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne, books seven and eight.
The book series takes place over a longer span of time, with events stretching for much longer.
The show will continue to deviate from the books more as it continues but it will still follow the main story points of the novels.
One of the main issues with following the books closely is the age of Uhtred, who by the book seven should be in his late 50s.
Speaking to RadioTimes, Alexander Dreydon addressed the issues with adapting the books.
He said: “We’re faced with that problem now, getting into season five where Uhtred is technically… I think he starts at 54 and ends up at 60 in the books.”
He continued: “That’s a problem right now because how do we make it look like Uhtred has aged without it looking comical? We’re working on it.”
The Last Kingdom is a co-production between the BBC and Netflix.
The first two seasons of the show aired on the BBC, with Netflix taking over from season three onwards.
Season five is expended to hit at the end of 2021 or in 2022.
