Jonathan Holtzman and co-star Genson Blimline made several appearances in The Blacklist as Chuck and Morgan, two of Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington’s (played by James Spader) loyal lackeys. As the reclusive FBI agent slowly gets his team back together in the latest season of the NBC drama, Jonathan recently confirmed he would be returning at some point in season nine on Instagram.

The ex-Blacklist recurrer took to his social media page in September with some sneak peeks behind-the-scenes.

His updates seem to confirm his return as Chuck for the first time since the end of season eight.

The actor posted a number of snaps of himself on the Blacklist trailer ready to film new scenes.

Red and the team won’t be returning for two weeks thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday, but fans could get their first glimpse at Chuck before the end of the year.

Furthermore, the actor had been given two cuts on his forehead, suggesting he’ll be in the midst of the action before the ninth season wraps up.

Chuck hasn’t been part of the series since the death of Liz Keen (Megan Boone) earlier this year.

However, he played an integral part in Red’s crack security team, ready to leap to his defence at a moment’s notice.

He was usually seen with his regular cohort Morgan (Genson Blimline), who last appeared in season seven.

Jonathan’s latest update has now sent speculation into tailspin as fans are predicting some familiar faces to start popping up in the coming weeks.

In the first few episodes, Red has finally reunited with Dembe Zuma (Hisham Tawfiq), though his new status as an FBI agent has put him at odds with his plans.

As Red starts to enlist the help of his old taskforce to take down more security threats, Chuck’s imminent return could also signal the return of Morgan.

Ahead of the season nine premiere, one fan speculated on Reddit: “I think Reddington just hasn’t called [Morgan] yet, and he was unavailable in 8.17.”

“We haven’t seen the guy from 8.02 and 8.03 (“Bud”) again either.

“They probably want to keep a limited number of “mercenaries” on set now more than ever.”

The cast of The Blacklist hasn’t been quite as extensive since television and film productions have been hit with COVID restrictions in the past two years.

Even so, Red seems determined to get the taskforce back to its former glory, which could mean Morgan is due to return to the fold.

Blacklist regular Genson has sadly yet to confirm his appearance in season nine thus far.

Jonathan’s frequent co-star isn’t as active on social media, so Morgan’s appearance may not be confirmed until the episode airs.

However, production is still moving steadily along so fans could see their first hint of Chuck and Morgan’s reunion sooner or later.

The Blacklist season 9 continues Thursday, December 9 on NBC.
