Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) is taken aback in Coronation Street when she and Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) are asked to foster a child over the Christmas period.
Viewers will know that Toyah and Imran have been desperately trying to fulfil their fostering dreams over the past year, but they encountered many obstacles along the way.
However, they were ultimately filled with joy earlier this month, when they learned that they were officially able to foster children.
Little did Toyah know, however, that she’d be asked to do so just in time for Christmas!
Yes, on Christmas Eve, she receives a call asking her if she and Imran can foster a baby named Mason straight away, and she wastes little time in saying yes.
‘[They’re] A little bit shellshocked,’ actress Georgia Taylor told Metro.co.uk, ‘Because it’s an emergency fostering placement, which means that there’s little notice. I think they get the call on Christmas Eve.
‘The child arrives on Christmas Eve night, so Christmas Day is them just getting to grips with this little boy. He’s a little bit stressed at first, as babies are, and will cry and all of that.
‘They’re just in a bit of a whirlwind, really. The flat’s upside down, there’s toys everywhere, milk sterilisers and it’s all going crazy.
‘So it’s a bit of a hectic Christmas for them but a really welcome, lovely surprise.’
A sleepless night ensues, as Toyah and Imran are kept awake, but in spite of everything, the pair couldn’t be happier when Christmas Day arrives.
‘What happens in the Christmas Day episode is Toyah doesn’t get out of her pyjamas all day – she’s up to her ears in nappies and toys and all of that. She’s loving it, really. Although it’s stressful, she’s really thriving.’
