Piers Morgan calls Matt Hancock ‘absolute disgrace’ over Covid-19 chat drama

Piers Morgan has called Health Secretary Matt Hancock an "absolute disgrace" after he reportedly refused to appear on Good Morning Britain today.

ITV star Piers was raging as the Tory MP agreed to take part in rival show BBC Breakfast instead.

Good Morning Britain had been keen to invite the Health Secretary onto the ITV programme after the news that the number of coronavirus cases have surged by 2,420 following another huge increase in infections.

Piers and co-star Susanna Reid wanted to chat to the Health Secretary on the show the news that the number of coronavirus cases have surged by 2,420 following another huge increase in infections.

This has seen new measures implemented, including banning gatherings of more than six people from Monday.

Matt Hancock has also warned there were signs that a second peak could be coming after a "concerning" rise in infections.

However, despite this, the Health Secretary reportedly won't go on the show.

Piers tweeted to his 7.6million followers: "UPDATE: As UK coronavirus cases & deaths spike again, we asked No10 if they would put any ministers up for interview on @GMB to inform our viewers about the worrying situation. For the 134th consecutive day, they declined."

The presenter also retweeted BBC host Dan Walker, who wrote: "The Health Secretary @MattHancock will be joining us LIVE on #BBCBreakfast at 7:30 in the morning.

"Let us know if you have any questions about testing, restrictions, infection rates or anything else."

Piers raged back: "Of course he is. Shame on you @MattHancock – it's an absolute disgrace that you refuse to come on @GMB during a public health crisis & refuse to inform our viewers about it."

Daily Star Online has contacted a representative of Matt Hancock for comment.
