Piers Morgan attacks Ant and Dec calling their NTA wins 'annoying and bloody boring' as he attempts to snatch crown

Piers Morgan has set his sights on dethroning Ant and Dec after bagging a nomination for best TV presenter at the National Television Awards.

The Geordie duo have won the prize for 19 consecutive years thanks to their work on shows including I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain's Got Talent.

However,Piers , who left Good Morning Britain earlier this year following controversy over his comments about the Duchess of Sussex, believes he can end their reign.

He has urged fans to vote for him to end the "tediously predictable carve-up".

Sharing a picture of himself celebrating one of their many wins with them, he wrote:  “For 19 consecutive years, @antanddec have won TV Presenter of the Year at @OfficialNTAs.

"It's been as annoying as it's been bloody boring.

"Now, you can finally end the tediously predictable carve-up & choose a more deserving winner: Me.”

Piers doesn’t just have to beat Ant and Dec though – he’s also up against Holly Willoughby, Alison Hammond and Bradley Walsh in the category.

The TV firebrand also couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Meghan Markle after getting his nod.

Royal dig

Piers, – who stepped down from Good Morning Britain for refusing to apologise to the Duchess of Sussex – also  joked that he'll ask her to collect his award.

And he dubbed Meg 'Princess Pinocchio' in a thinly-veiled swipe online.

He wrote: "Most amused to finally be nominated for TV Presenter of the Year at the ⁦@OfficialNTAs – though could be a tad #awks for ITV if I win for my work on ⁦@GMB.

"Might have to pull a Brando and send Princess Pinocchio along to receive it on my behalf."

Piers, who has long been a vocal critic of Harry and Meghan, has used 'Princess Pinocchio' as a nickname for the Duchess on a number of occasions.

Swift exit

He left Good Morning Britain in March after receiving more than 57,000 Ofcom complaints when he said he didn't believe allegations made during the couple's interview with Oprah.

During the chat, the Sussexes alleged a senior royal had made racist comments about their son Archie's skin colour – while Meghan claimed Kate made her cry over bridesmaids' dresses.

Meghan also said she'd considered taking her own life while pregnant with Archie after begging The Firm for help.

But in one of his last-ever GMB shows, Piers clashed with Alex Beresford after saying he didn't think she was telling the truth – before dramatically storming off set.

Senior execs wanted him to say sorry on air after receiving a complaint directly from the royal – but Piers said he was not willing to apologise, and walked.

The decision brought an immediate end to his six-year stint on the morning show.
