Strictly: Maisie Smith jokes about her ’struggle’ in training
Maisie, 19, and Gorka, 30, won huge acclaim from the Strictly Come Dancing judges last Saturday when they performed a Quickstep routine. There were many technical elements to the dance, with the couple having to make use of staging and acrobatic moves to boost their position leaderboard. Their efforts paid off as they received a combined total of 29 out of 30 but looking back at their performance on Friday’s edition of BBC spin-off show It Takes Two, the soap star admitted she became the teacher at one point in rehearsals.
Sitting down with presenter Rylan Clark-Neal, 32, the EastEnders actress explained although there were doubts about whether there would be a wardrobe malfunction because of the tricky moves she was performing, she competed the routine without a hitch.
The host then asked the contestant: “Am I right in saying you taught Gorka how to cartwheel?” to which she said she did.
“That was a struggle,” she replied, with the professional dancer jokingly hitting back: “Excuse me, you have two weeks [left] if everything goes well.
“Make sure you’re nice,” he jibed, with Maisie nervously laughing at the comment she had made about training her partner.
However, he was full of praise for the soap star as he recalled being in the dance-off twice consecutively in previous weeks.

The professional said: “It is very hard [to pick yourself back up]. I think especially the first time, it was quite hard for both of us.
“It’s not a place you want to be in the show. But as we said, they were dances in the past. Today is a new day, a new week and a new challenge.
“We have to approach in the mindset we’re going to do our best, have the best time and to be honest, it was a positive thing for us.
“It made us realise how much the show means for both of us and how much we want to make it through every week,” Gorka explained.
That was a struggle
Even though they got a score of 29 out of a possible 30, the couple are hoping to get full marks this weekend.
For musicals week, Maisie and her partner will be performing a Jive to the soundtrack of Little Shop of Horrors.
Making it to the quarter-final, the soap star said: “This is my week. I had to reach this week like I’ve won the show now.
“It’s a dream,” she continued, telling Rylan she was going to be in her element being able to perform on stage.

According to latest odds from Coral bookmakers, it seems Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing, 31, is the favourite to leave this weekend.
Going into the quarter-finals, the reality star stands at 11/10 to be eliminated, with JJ Chalmers, 33, also in the danger zone at 5/4.
Spokesperson John Hill said: “It looks like it could be a toss-up between Jamie Laing and JJ Chalmers as to who will leave Strictly this weekend.
“They both need a big performance to survive another week,” he continued, but having been in the dance-off twice before, will Karen Hauer’s, 38, partner be making an exit?
On the other end of the spectrum, comedian Bill Bailey, 55, leads the charge with regards as to who could win the Glitterball Trophy.
The musician’s chances of victory currently stand at 8/11, with his closest rival being chart-topper HRVY, 21.
Not far behind them is EastEnders actress Maisie who looks set to come in the third position at 6/1.
“Bill Bailey continues to strengthen his position as the favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy. The comedian is the one to beat as he is odds-on to be named the winner,” Hill added.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7:15pm on BBC One. It Takes Two airs weeknights at 6:30pm on BBC Two.
