Lucifer fans love Tom Ellis’ performance as the charismatic devil Lucifer Morningstar in the hit series. However, some might be wondering just how he landed the part back in 2015 – here’s what the star himself revealed about this.

How did Tom Ellis land Lucifer Morningstar role?

With season five of Lucifer coming out on Netflix in August, fans are already excited to see what will happen next in the hit show.

And by the looks of the new trailer, it seems like star Tom Ellis will also have his work cut out for him as he plays both Lucifer and his twin brother Michael.

Fans will be excited to see him return after falling in love with his performance as the devil over the past four outings.

Ellis was originally cast in the pilot for the show way back in 2015 and has previously opened up about how he got the part.

Speaking to Interview Magazine in September 2015, the star revealed more about the process and how he wasn’t as prepared for the role as he could have been.

When asked about how he landed the role, he said: “It was one of the few scripts that I read during pilot season this year that, as soon as I read it, I said, ‘That’s what I want to do.’

“It was much funnier than anything that I had read.

“I met Len Wiseman, who had come on board as the director. It was instantaneous for me from that moment.

“He made it quite apparent that he wanted me to do it, and I really wanted to do the project, so it was just about getting the studio and everyone on board. That came quite quickly as well.”

Ellis also revealed how living in Los Angeles, he had been involved in projects for the pilot season since 2018.

He continued: “Pilot season’s such a strange time. You get such a concentrated amount of scripts.

“A lot of them become white noise after a while. When something really pops, it becomes apparent very quickly. I’m quite instinctive about that.

Thankfully for fans of the show Lucifer was one of those projects for the British star.

However, he also went on to reveal to the publication how he didn’t actually realise the show was based on Neil Gaiman’s DC comics until after he was cast.

Ellis explained: “I have to embarrassingly admit, I didn’t know that it was based on a graphic novel until after I got the job and I read it on Deadline.
