Adil Ray and Susanna Reid were joined by Domnic Raab on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday as the Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the Government’s social care plan, Boris Johnson’s speech at the Confederation of British Industry and Harper’s Law. However, Raab shut down Ray for interrupting him during the debate.

From October 2023, the plan proposes those with assets of less than £20,000 will not have to pay anything from this towards care fees although they may still have to pay from their income.

Those with more than £100,000 in assets will not get any financial help from the council.

Those with assets between £20,000 and £100,000 will qualify for council help but will have to pay £86,000 to reach the cap.

Questioning the new care plan, Ray said: “Surely, we all should be thinking of a credible alternative policy and [we] should be looking after the poorest people. How is that not the fairest thing to say?”

“Well if you just take a little bit of pause for breath and let me answer the question in full,” Raab hit back.
