The Last Kingdom is on Netflix now and the series, based on Anglo-Saxon history, has been renewed for season five. The series is based on the books called The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, and season four introduced Sigtryggr (played by Eysteinn Sigurðarson). Fans are keen to find out whether Sigtryggr kills Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) in season five.
Will Sigtryggr kill Uhtred in season 5?
The end of The Last Kingdom season four saw the Viking warlord Sigtryggr invade Winchester along with his new friend Brida (Emily Cox).
Uhtred and his friends returned to Winchester to help King Edward (Timothy Innes) claim back his land and free the hostages.
Uhtred’s old friend Brida wanted revenge against him after he watched her get captured and taken away as a slave.
However, Uhtred managed to strike a bargain with Sigtryggr and the kingdom of Winchester was saved.
As part of the deal, Sigtryggr was allowed to leave Winchester freely with Uhtred’s young daughter, Stiorra (Ruby Hartley).
Uhtred was left wondering whether he would ever see Sigtryggr or his daughter again.
One of the questions fans will be asking is whether Sigtryggr was tricking Uhtred into a false sense of security.
There is a chance, now Uhtred somewhat trusts him, he may return to kill Uhtred and gain more status for himself.
For fans who have read the books, they will know Sigtryggr dies in Sword of Kings.
However as there is some deviation from the source material, he may be victorious.
In the books Uhtred survives, as he is after all the main character, so he is not likely to die at the hands of Sigtryggr.
But that is not to say Sigtryggr will not kill someone close to Uhtred, in a bid to weaken him.
Fans have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts on Sigtryggr’s character, with one saying: “Sigtryggr is by far one of the most compelling Danes yet.
“I think he will be a force of immense power in season five.”
Another fan said: “Sigtryggr was a welcome breath of fresh air from the Danish side – finally there’s a cunning, rational, and measured Danish leader as opposed to the normal “RAH KILL EVERYTHING THAT MOVES” that comes out of the Danish side (looking at you, Brida).”

One fan came up with a theory that Uhtred and Sigtryggr had a more in-depth discussion than what was shown in the fourth season.
Zj63 said: “I think Uhtred already knew he would ask for Stiorra along with Eoferwic, they would be allied through marriage, and in return Sigtryggr will give Uhtred the army he needs to take back Bebbanburg – and together, Uhtred, his daughter and Sigtryggr will rule Northumbria, the last kingdom.
“If it was any other Dane then it probably wouldn’t work, but Sigtryggr is unique, he seems to want stability instead of endless fighting, and he appears to respect Uhtred. They probably see a lot of themselves in each other (I know I do).”
In the books, Uhtred ends up saving Sigtryggr and Stiorra from a siege, so it seems they create a strong bond.
Before this, Uhtred had removed Sigtryggr’s eye when he first noticed Stiorra, so there is some tension between the two characters.
Speaking about Sigtryggr’s character in the series, executive producer Nigel Marchant said: “[He’s] very different to what we’ve had before.
“It’s been a challenge and very interesting to keep changing the perspective of how we see the Danes.
“Sigtryggr has been over in Ireland and he’s a second-generation Dane, so it becomes a little echo of Uhtred’s identity crisis regarding the concept of immigration – is he a Dane or is he Irish? When does someone stop being a foreigner in the land that they’re born in?”
