I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! could be set to return to Wales again in 2022.
It’s reported that show bosses are nervous to put all their eggs in one basket and rely on a return to Australia next year with Covid still making things uncertain.
To that end, it’s claimed that Gwrych Castle have agreed not to take any bookings for November 2022, which would make it available as a location for the popular show should producers decide to return for a third stint in the UK.
I’m A Celebrity relocated to Wales in 2020 amid travel restrictions due to the pandemic, and filmed there once again this year with Emmerdale star Danny Miller emerging victorious as the first King of the Castle on Sunday.
A source told The Sun: ‘At the moment it is pretty much nailed on for a third year in the castle. Australia is opening up but could also snap shut at any time depending on how things go so that situation is far from being on an even footing.
‘The executives are happy to stick with Gwyrch Castle for another year and then after that the show might finally get back Down Under.’
Claiming that viewers are ‘understanding’ of the situation because it’s known that Australia is ‘super-strict’, they added: ‘The show has the option for a third year and the trustees won’t take on any other bookings without letting ITV know.’
When contacted by Metro.co.uk for a response, ITV declined to comment.
In the aftermath of Sunday’s final, it appeared fans were keen for the show to return to Australia, with social media alight with criticism of ‘awful trials’ and the 2021 show being fans’ ‘least favourite series’ so far.
While Ant and Dec kept things light with amusing remarks over Prime Minister Boris Johnson, it seems that wasn’t quite enough to fully entertain viewers.
The series was also rocked by an early exit from major signing Richard Madeley after illness forced him to leave the camp and found him unable to return, having broken the Covid bubble.
Storm Arwen also forced the show off air for three consecutive nights in a first for I’m A Celebrity, as the contestants were evacuated from the castle for the safety of them and the crew.
I’m A Celebrity is available to watch on ITV Hub.
