GRANTCHESTER’S DI Geordie Keating actor Robson Green has shared an emotional tribute to Will Davenport’s replacement and given fans a first look at series nine.
58-year-old Robson has fronted the period detective drama for almost a decade, but in that time several of his co-stars have come and gone. The latest to depart is Tom Brittany, who played Will Davenport. He’ll be replaced by Rishi Nair, who is joining the show next season.
In an emotional Instagram post, Robson revealed how thrilled he is to be working with Hollyoaks alum Rishi, 32, who is playing new vicar Alphy Kotteram in series nine. He shared a snap of himself and Rishi, filming a scene from the upcoming season.
Alongside the photo, Robson wrote: “A joy to be working alongside fellow actor and now friend Rishi Nair.”
He continued, praising his new co-star: “Whether we’re rehearsing, filming, or simply sharing a conversation during breaks, his presence never fails to lighten the mood and create a warm and supportive atmosphere on set.
“His humility serves as a reminder to all of us that no matter how far we may go in our careers, it’s essential to stay connected to the people and experiences that shape us.”

Rishi has joined the series to replace Reverend Will Davenport, who will depart early in season nine as he’s faced with a life-changing offer.
As a result, Robson’s character Geordie and Alphy will find themselves working closely together, according to the official synopsis for the upcoming season.
They will be faced with an array of mysterious cases in the village, including “deadly circuses, abandoned babies, and hostile historians to vanishing valets and murderous satirists.”
The pair also “witness first-hand how religion can be corrupted, but also how faith, love and friendship can offer hope – and renewal.”
