Since joining the cast of Emmerdale as Wendy Posner back in 2019, actress Susan Cookson has dug her teeth into a fair few gritty storylines.
From arriving in the Dales to confront Victoria Sugden who accused her son Lee of raping her to Wendy lying to veteran character Bob Hope ahead of an incoming affair storyline, it’s definitely not been all plain sailing in the Yorkshire village.
But outside of the long-running soap, what else do we know about the actress? From her other acting roles to her personal life, here’s everything you need to know about Susan Cookson…
What else has she been in?
As well as playing Wendy, eagle-eyed Emmerdale fans may also recognise Susan from the soap years ago.
The 58 year old actually had a few other smaller parts in the show way before landing her recurring role – appearing as an unnamed garage attendant in February 1993, DC Fallon in August 1997 and as DI Judy Dove from December 2002 to January 2003.
As well as Emmerdale, Susan has also appeared in fellow soap, Coronation Street, where she played a small role between 2015 and 2016.
However, fans will mainly know the actress through her time on the BBC medical drama, Casualty, where she portrayed Maggie Coldwell from 1998 to 2000, 2005 to 2009, and then again in 2015.
Is she married?
Susan was married to fellow actor, Malcolm Scates, whom she wed back in 1993.
Malcolm was known for his roles in The Inbetweeners, Waterloo Road, and The Wolfman, and the pair share two children together, Ruari and Dan.
During Susan’s Casualty days – where she had to make the journey from the family’s home in Sheffield to Bristol, where the show was filmed – she revealed that she couldn’t have done it without her husband.
Speaking to The Daily Record in 2008, the 58 year old recalled: “There have been times when I've had to say to my kids, 'I won't be here in the morning. I have to go back to Bristol tonight.'”
"The tears well up in their eyes and they say: 'I don't want you to go! Please don't go! I hate Casualty!'”
"It's been hard for Malc, too, but he's just the most supportive person. I know I couldn't have done it without him."
Unfortunately, Malcolm passed away in September 2016, but no details were shared regarding his death.
