Emma Barton promises 'old school EastEnders' this Christmas

EastEnders is always home to major drama at Christmas and, enthusing about a new era for the show after an autumn launch, actress Emma Barton has assured fans that there is some thrilling ‘old school’ EastEnders drama up to and including Christmas.

Asked about what’s coming up, the Honey Mitchell star revealed to Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s all starting to build now, the launch of the new season is creating some big new storylines and it will be classic old school EastEnders. I have loved all of it, and there’s so much to come that is exciting.’

Her co-star Danny Dyer recently promised a major Christmas on the Square which is traditionally home to huge affair showdowns, secrets revealed, violent murders and, um, poisoned Christmas Pudding.

Honey is currently at the centre of a major storyline involving her relationship with Minute Mart manager Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).

Suki has developed a crush on Honey and kissed her but as far as Honey is concerned, nothing has changed.

Well, until Suki has turned sharply on her.

Emma sighed: ‘Well, Emma is just exactly the same. This is her friend, they went out, had a lovely time and some wires were crossed. In Honey’s mind that’s all that it is, nothing has changed. She wants to be her friend and she is not going to say anything.

‘I really don’t think Honey believes there was anything in it. She actually wants to support Suki and reassure her. Honey is very grown up about it, if that makes sense. She is all cool about it but then she gets this frosty response in the shop; it’s not what she expects and it scares and upsets her a little bit. It feels like she doesn’t know where she stands with her, she doesn’t know what to do.’

She added: ‘I think a few years ago she would run as far as she could. With her ex boyfriend Adam, her eating disorder and everything that she has had to deal with over the last few years.

‘So when she is being bullied, she knows she has to do something about it. She would want her own children to stand up to a bully. It’s also for her sanity; to know she won’t tolerate this. It could have easily see Honey walk away and that the bully has won but no-one deserves to be bullied.’
