Death in Paradise is currently filming series 10 which will air sometime in early 2021. The comedy drama is going to once again be set on the beautiful island of Saint Marie where it seems like a murder is committed on a weekly basis. This time around though, there will be two major characters making their departures.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Death in Paradise.

The BBC announced in July that two actresses would be leaving Death in Paradise in season 10.

The statement reads: “After two series bringing law, order, and joy to the streets of Saint Marie, we’re sad to say goodbye to Ruby Patterson who made such a massive impact in such a short time!

“DS Madeleine Dumas will also be departing Saint Marie’s sunny shores and we would like to thank Shyko Amos and Aude Legastelois-Bidé for bringing Ruby and Madeleine to life and wish them all the very best for the
future.”

While no details were revealed in terms of their exits, one fans thinks they know what could be on the cards for Ruby’s final storyline.

Is this how Officer Ruby Patterson will die?

Death in Paradise fan and Reddit user SprinklesTheEvee has gone into great detail about their theory into how Ruby will leave.

At the beginning of season 10, episode one, the DIP fan theorises how the camera would show several island locations before turning to “outside a bustling nightclub on a Friday night”.

The theory reads: “We cut to inside where we see Ruby Patterson and a group of her friends celebrating one of the girls’ 28th birthday and they are all giggling and drinking.

“Ruby is in the middle of recounting a funny anecdote about JP [Hooper] that we only hear the end of and the girls laugh.

“Meanwhile, the camera cuts to a shady looking car pulling up outside of the night club.”

The Reddit user continues: “The scene changes to a few hours later.

“The girls are extremely drunk at this point and the owner of the nightclub, Mr Jacques Laurent, a man who’s also known the girls since they were teenagers offers them a lift home.

“On the way back from leaving Ruby, his last passenger, home he stops at a gas station and when he comes back he notices that Ruby is out cold in her seat.

“Mr Laurent groans, realising that he’ll have to carry her to the front door.

“He knocks on the door of her house and the Commissioner answers. Mr Laurent explains the situation and the Commissioner rolls his eyes, thinking that Ruby had been incredibly irresponsible but he lets it slide because it was her friend’s birthday.

“As the Commissioner is carrying Ruby to her bed, he realises that she feels unusually stuff and cold.

“Confused, he sets her down on the sofa and tries to wake her. No response. “The Commissioner starts to panic as the camera pans in on Ruby’s face.

“Ruby Patterson has been murdered. Cue the theme song!”

Despite just being a fan theory, fellow Reddit users praised the exciting plot, which also goes on to detail potential suspects and the motive behind the killing.

One fan simply commented: “Yes Yes YES!”, while another said: “Wow, this is good”.

A third praised how the creator should “be a writer for the show” and a fourth continued: “If this is NOT the episode we get, we riot.”

As well as Ruby and Madeleine’s exit, there will be a couple of new faces welcomed to Saint Marie.

DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) will be making a comeback during series 10, presumably taking over the role from Madeleine.

Then there is “petty criminal” Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) who will be introduced to the series as well.

Executive Producer Tim Key said: It’s a joy to be working with Josephine Jobert again and we think the viewers will love watching her trying to get to grips with Neville.

“And we are very happy to welcome Tahj Miles to the show. Marlon is going to make real waves once he arrives in Saint Marie.”

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC One.
