The Duggar family has long insisted that they don’t watch secular television. In the earliest seasons of the family’s original reality TV show, 19 Kids and Counting, Jim Bob and Michelle both decried traditional forms of entertainment. They insisted the kids didn’t watch secular television, nor were they allowed to rock out to popular music. Based on a few clues, it looks like the Duggar family might have been fibbing about their entertainment habits.
Jessa and Amy enjoyed I Love Lucy as kids
Last year, Amy Duggar took to the podcasting airwaves to discuss her life. She also spilled a little dirt on her famous cousins. Her most scandalous admission was that she and Jessa Duggar used to enjoy I Love Lucy as kids, according to Inquistr.
Now, don’t get us wrong. I Love Lucy is far from raunchy television. After all, Lucy and Ricky didn’t even sleep in the same bed as a married couple. There were some themes in the show that would probably make Jim Bob and Michelle avert their eyes, though.
Ricky worked in a nightclub; nightclubs are surely verboten in the Duggar house. Lucy once got drunk while doing a commercial for VitaMeataVegamin. She also regularly tried to kickstart a career, much to the dismay of her husband. Lucy was also far from obedient.
Jessa has cable at her crib, and her kids watch it
Jessa once suggested that her home would not have cable television in it; however, she seems to have changed her position. She and her young son, Spurgeon, are addicted to Fixer Upper and all things HGTV, according to People.
Jessa shared the news on Instagram, and some fans questioned whether or not she’d finally loosened up her stance on cable television. It looks like she has and is enjoying the secular world of home entertainment. Sure, Fixer Upper is among the most wholesome television shows you could be watching, but it’s still progress.
If the Duggar girls are sharing the more wholesome television shows they indulge in, could they be secretly viewing more risqué content? Maybe Jessa has HBO and is a massive fan of Game of Thrones? Her fans will likely never know, but it’s an interesting concept to ponder.
Jana and Jinger mysteriously know the lyrics tonon-Christian music
Jinger set the internet on fire when she quoted secular music in an Instagram post. In December 2017, Jinger quoted Clean Bandit’s song, “Rather Be” in a caption. The quote appeared as a caption on a snapshot of Jeremy Vuolo. Released in 2014 the song made Billboard’s Top 10 list that year.
Jinger isn’t the only Duggar lady who has dipped her toes into the world of popular music. Jessa posted a video of Spurgeon rocking out to some Christmas tunes as a toddler. Spurgeon is seen dancing about (another activity considered off-limits to the Duggar family) to some Charlie Brown beats.
Not to be outdone by her younger sisters, Jana let it slip that listens to secular music, too. When questioned about finding Mr. Right recently, Jana quoted Michael Buble’s hit “Haven’t Met You Yet.” Again, Buble’s hits are pretty wholesome and clean, but it still suggests the Duggar family hasn’t been exactly truthful about their entertainment habits.
