Coronation Street’s Alexandra Mardell new role confirmed after leaving soap

Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell has confirmed she’s been cast in a new drama, following her exit from the soap.

The actress, who played Emma Brooker, will feature in a new BBC radio drama called No Platformed.

Alexandra will play the role of Clara, in the four-part series starting today (June 15).

She will star alongside Hugh Dennis, most known for Outnumbered and Not Going Out.

Revealing the news on her Instagram, Alexandra posted a series of behind the scenes pictures that featured shots of the scripts and herself in the recording booth.

She wrote alongside: ‘Did a thing! A BBCRadio4 thing! If you fancy a listen – No Platformed – Starts tomorrow on BBC Radio 4 – 11pm – the 1st of 4 weekly eps or catch up on BBCSounds.’

Alexandra’s exit from Coronation Street was announced back in February.

‘Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life,’ the soap star said at the time.

‘Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult.

Alexandra also told The Sun that she feels now is the ‘right time’ to leave the show.

‘I can’t thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories.’

Emma’s final scenes saw her leave Weatherfield with her new boyfriend, Jon, the grandson of the man Faye (Ellie Leach) accidentally killed at the start of the year.

When Faye and Emma drove home from a New Year’s Eve party, Faye hit an old man called Ted.

Ted was initially fine, but when Faye and Emma returned to the flat, they found him dead.

When Jon discovered the truth, he chose to not go to the police and told Emma he still wants to start a new life with her in Australia.
