Back in season five, episode four of The Big Bang Theory, titled The Wiggly Finger Catalyst, Sheldon (played by Jim Parsons) decided the best way to focus on his work was to free up his brain from menial decision-making. As such, CBS viewers witnessed Sheldon use a pair of dice to determine what he’d do with his day, whether it be to shave or what food he was going to eat. However, one eagle-eyed fan appears to have opened up a plot hole in his thinking.
Sheldon accompanied roommate Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) to the Cheesecake Factory for a bite to eat in the episode.
While the guys ordered what they wanted to eat, Sheldon’s new way of thinking led to his dinner being “a side of corn succotash”.
To wash it all down, Sheldon landed himself a pitcher of Margheritas and a hot fudge sundae for dessert.
Upon a second visit, with Sheldon still using the dice, he had to decide whether or not to use the restroom.
“Papa needs to void his bladder,” Sheldon said as he rolled the dice.
Sadly for Sheldon, the dice determined he’d have to wait, something he “didn’t want to see after three buttermilks.”
However, one Big Bang viewer has taken issue with Sheldon even contemplating the idea of going to the restroom in the restaurants.
Taking to Reddit, user Earthquake1000000 explains how this appears to contradict something Sheldon had said in an earlier episode.
They explain: “I don’t know if this has been posted before, but this mistake is about the phrase ‘Don’t defecate where you eat’.
“Somewhere around the Change Constant, Sheldon reveals that he always took the phrase literally and has never used the toilet in any restaurant.
“However, in the episode where Sheldon uses the dice to determine his decision (gold digger Emily episode), Sheldon rolled the dice when he wanted to go to the toilet IN the Cheesecake Factory.
“This shows that Sheldon has used the restroom in the Cheesecake Factory before. So saying that he took it literally was a mistake.”

Sheldon did indeed state this earlier in the series when it came to the possibility of Amy (Mayim Bialik) working at the university with him.
However, some fans pointed out that the fact Sheldon used the word “defecate” may excuse the fact he only needed to “void his bladder” in the episode in question.
Nevertheless, the fact Sheldon would even use the restroom considering how much of a germaphobe he is in the series also leaves question marks over the character trait.
The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix UK now.
