Strictly Come Dancing bosses have now confirmed which professional dancers will be returning for the 2021 series – and Anton Du Beke is one of them. Anton has been on the BBC programme from day one, racking up almost two decades on the show. In 2020, Oti Mabuse took home the Glitterball trophy for the second year in a row with comedian Bill Bailey. The year before that she was crowned the winner with former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher and Anton has joked that her constant victories are getting on his nerves a bit.

Speaking about his return to the dance competition with Steph McGovern on her Channel 4 talk show, Anton said he would love to win the show before his “knees play up”.

Turning to Anton, Steph began: “Good news about Strictly, Anton.

“Ahh, yes,” the dancer replied as Steph continued: “You’ve signed up for another series?”

“Can’t wait,” he replied. “I still think it should be you and I.”

Weighing into the discussion, Marcus Brigstocke asked: “You’ve got to win this year, surely?”

“I’ve got to win before the knees play up,” Anton continued. “I’ve had the great fortune of being there since the beginning.

“This must be like 19th series or something,” he added before Steph interrupted: “Can you not remember?”

“I honestly can’t really remember,” he added. “And I just can’t tell you how – I feel honoured really and proud to have been there since the beginning.”

Speaking about Oti Mabuse’s return to the series, Steph asked Anton: “Now our Oti Mabuse is signed up for another year.

“Is that good news or bad news as she has won it for the last two years?”

Anton jokingly responded: “It is getting on my nerves a little bit.

“She’s won it twice in a row, it’s getting on my nerves a bit, But, yes, it’s brilliant.”

“As far as I’m aware, everybody is coming back who was on it last year is coming back,” he added.

“We only care about you and Oti though,” Steph replied. “You’re our faves.”

“To be honest, I could halve that and only care about me,” Anton joked.

Chipping in again comedian Marcus went on to suggest that if Anton partnered up with Oti then “he’d definitely win”.

“I should, shouldn’t I,” Anton said.

A number of other Strictly favourites will be joining Anton in 2021, including Gorka Marquez and Katya Jones.

However, despite being the longest-serving professional, Anton still is yet to take the top spot.

Last year, Anton bowed out in the very first week after being paired with former Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith.

He did almost get his hands on the elusive trophy back in 2019, however, when he teamed up with EastEnders star Emma Barton.

Steph’s Packed Lunch continues weekdays at 12:30pm on Channel 4. Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
