Untold Australia: Country Town Pride

SBS, 8.30pm

Untold Australia goes out in cracking style with the wonderful story of a truckie from Wagga Wagga — who also happens to be a trans woman – organising Wagga's first Gay Pride parade. The Riverina town is one of the most conservative in Australia, and certainly there are plenty of people who wish Holly Conroy ill (including her next door neighbour and her brother). But as we follow her as she completes her transition and puts herself out there to stage a country town Mardi Gras we also get to meet a whole host of extraordinary characters who could not be more supportive, not least her beautiful father Graham. Narrated by Magda Szubanski, this is an inspiring testament both to the human spirit, and the power of communities to change, and to heal.

The Set

ABC, 9.55pm

The Set is something of a lesson to all those people who want favourite shows brought back. Just as Recovery was a 90s-appropriate riff on Countdown, this terrific little show performs the same function as its forebears, but with a distinctly Millennial vibe. Hosted by triple J's Linda Marigliano and Dylan Alcott (who last year joked about winning a Logie – now he's gone and done it!), it's the perfect blend of lively and relaxed. The framework of the "house party" provides a bit of structure – but not too much structure – and while there are interviews (or at least chats) to break up the performances the focus remains firmly on the music. The Set is first and foremost a showcase for young and emerging talent, and this first episode features Amy Shark, the Teskey Brothers, and Thelma Plum.

Gigi Hadid & Tyler Cameron Spotted Out With Friends In NYC After Weekend Getaway — Pic

Gigi Hadid and Tyler Cameron just can’t stay away from each other. The pair reunited in New York City on Aug. 21 after their weekend getaway to Lake George.

Gigi Hadid, 24, and Tyler Cameron, 26, just keep fueling those romance rumors. They were both spotted having dinner with friends, including tennis pro Serena Williams, 37, at La Esquina Restaurant in New York City on Aug. 21. Gigi looked gorgeous in a super casual look that included a white tank top and jeans. Tyler rocked a red t-shirt and gray shorts. Gigi and Tyler were never too far from each other when they were photographed outside the restaurant.

This latest outing for the supermodel and The Bachelorette star comes after their weekend trip together to Lake George, New York. They were seen grabbing some liquor in Long Lake before heading to their weekend away together with friends. Gigi and Tyler have been seen out a number of times together in New York City over the last few weeks. Tyler was even spotted leaving Gigi’s apartment on Aug. 12.

While nothing romantic has been confirmed by the two of them, it’s clear that Gigi and Tyler are very friendly with each other. HollywoodLife got some EXCLUSIVE scoop on their outing at Frames Bowling Lounge on Aug. 5. “You could tell they were interested in each other and were being very flirtatious throughout the night,” an eyewitness told HL. “They were playfully teasing each other, kept giggling, and they couldn’t stop smiling.”

It’s only been a few weeks since the dramatic Bachelorette finale. Tyler got his heart broken by Hannah Brown, 24, months ago and they came face-to-face for the first time during After the Final Rose. Hannah acknowledged she still had feelings for Tyler and asked him out for a drink. Hannah and Tyler got that drink and he was seen leaving her L.A. place on the morning of Aug. 2. While Bachelor Nation fans want a Tyler and Hannah reunion, it appears Tyler may have found something special with Gigi.

Sony Just Released A Statement Clarifying That Huge Spider-Man News

While Spider-Man fans are still reeling from the recent report that the franchise is leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony has decided to try and set the record straight. Sony’s statement about Spider-Man leaving the MCU claims the news has been "mischaracterized" — and left the door open to working with Marvel once again in the future.

In a statement obtained by Bustle (which they also shared on Twitter), a Sony Pictures spokesperson explained, "Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film." (Bustle also reached out to representatives for Disney, Tom Holland, and Marvel for comment.)

The statement continues, "We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own." Sony ended their statement by praising Feige and his work, and acknowledging the influence that he and the MCU have had on the Spider-Man franchise over the past few years. "Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue," the studio wrote.

The Sussexes hired a new nanny for baby Archie: ‘The new nanny is a godsend’

Did I completely ignore the stories about “fired nannies” in the Sussex household? I’m looking through our archives and I can’t find anything, and I have no memory of the “fired nanny” narrative. I want to say that I probably ignored it because the British press continues to be trash, but it’s also possible that I did make some kind of reference to a “fired nanny” and just forgot about it because I can’t keep up with the daily smears lodged against the Duchess of Sussex. I do remember that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quietly hired a “night nanny,” which I just interpreted as a night nurse, as someone who will be with Baby Archie for two months or so. There was apparently another nanny who got fired after a few weeks for “unprofessional” behavior. And so now the Sussexes have a new nanny, and the nanny was on holiday with them in France:

Meghan and Harry have hired another nanny for baby Archie — their third since he was born three months ago. The new worker, described by Meghan, 38, as a “godsend”, accompanied the family on their two private jet holidays this month. She was seen boarding one of the gas-guzzling planes in Nice, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their tot had been staying at Elton John’s £15million pad.

A source said: “Meghan is a very hands-on mum but the new nanny is a godsend. She is extremely professional, with a number of nannying years under her belt, and has fitted into the family really well. She’s great with little Archie and just adores him. Harry and Meghan are very happy with her.”

The couple’s first nanny was sacked for being “unprofessional” while the second was nights only. The third, who is not live-in, will join the Sussexes for their royal tour next month. Mum and baby and nanny are staying in South Africa while Harry, 34, will also visit Botswana, Angola and Malawi. Their new staff member is the latest addition to Team Meghan, after the couple also hired a housekeeper to look after them at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

[From The Sun]

One, the Sun (and other British papers) are doing the most to talk about the Sussexes’ staffing like… the Cambridges didn’t have the exact same arrangement. There was always talk about how the Cambridges got by with minimal staff, especially in the early days of their marriage, but we learned later that they had a housekeeper/cook who came in every day when they lived in Wales. The Cambridges also had William’s old nanny looking after George, and then they hired Nanny Maria when George was a few months old.

As for this new Sussex nanny… the Sun has some blurry photos. She’s a woman of color. I honestly have a pit in the bottom of my stomach because I know we’re about to get days and weeks full of reporting and editorializing about why Meghan is awful/unroyal/breaking protocol for hiring a black woman as a nanny.

EastEnders: Will Ben Mitchell tell Phil the truth about Stacey Fowler?

BEN Mitchell issued Kat Slater a stark warning about her cousin Stacey in last night's episode of EastEnders – but will he go as far as to reveal who really attacked his dad Phil?

Walford's hard nut Phil finally got to the bottom of the truth about what happened the night he was left for dead (at least regarding his son anyway) after grilling Kat about his son.

Fans of the BBC One soap saw a horrified Phil find out from Kat that his own son deliberately didn’t call an ambulance when he found him unconscious in The Arches.

Following the revelation, the recovering alcoholic headed to the Minute Mart and bought two bottles of vodka before threatening to drink again if Ben didn't own up to the truth.

In some emotional scenes Ben confessed that he had returned to Walford to fleece Phil.

The mechanic then sent his son packing, telling him he never wanted to see him again.

But one thing Ben chose to keep to himself was that it wasn’t Kat who dealt the almost-fatal-blow, but, her cousin Stacey Fowler.

A vengeful Ben then headed round to the Slater household – which must feel like a mansion these days with only Kat, Jean and Mo rattling around in there now – to tell Kat that he still has the wrench Stacey used to cave Phil’s head in with.

Reminding her that it’s Stacey’s prints not hers that the wrench is covered with, Ben warned Kat that her cousin better stay away – pretty harsh considering her mum, Jean, is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.

So while the Kat stays in the bag for now, there is a huge possibility that Ben will reveal  to both Phil – and the police – that Stacey is the real attacker.

And if previous soap secrets are anything to go by, it's unlikely that this will stay secret for long.

Meanwhile, Ben’s now also got a good bargaining chip to get Martin Fowler back in Walford to do his dirty work for him.

Actress Lacey Turner is currently off on maternity leave after giving birth to her first baby, Dusty, last month and will not return to Walford for a little while.

This means her soap family will more than likely be left to deal with the consequences of her actions in the meantime.

But James Bye – who plays Martin – has returned to filming, so fans can expect to see him back on their TV screens soon.

The fruit and veg flogger went on the run with wife Stacey after she bashed Phil Mitchell over the head and left him for dead when he attacked Martin.

Despite the scorching lyrics, a source tells PEOPLE exclusively the star, 26, “isn’t trying to hurt” her estranged husband.

“Her song was her way of telling her story without having to say anything at all,” says the source. “She isn’t trying to bash him, but she wants to be able to share what she’s been going through.”

Cyrus is continuing to spend time with her longtime friend Kaitlynn Carter, 30, following their PDA-filled Italian getaway, and insiders say she’s trying to focus on herself after a trying few months.

Both 29-year-old Hemsworth — who remains in his native Australia — and Cyrus are leaning on loved ones, and despite her sadness over the split, the singer feels it’s “the right decision,” adds the source. “She just wants them to both be as healthy as possible.”

The former couple met in 2009 on the set of The Last Song, and had a rocky, on-again, off-again relationship for years before he proposed in 2012. The two ended their engagement and broke up a year later, before reconciling n 2015 and marrying in December 2018.

David Guetta's DJ partner Fred Rister dead at 58

The DJ partner of David Guetta Fred Rister has died at the age of 58 following a battle with cancer.

The producer played a part in dance bangers including The Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling and won a Grammy for his musical efforts.

Born in Dunkirk, France, Rister – real name Frédéric Riesterer – had collaborated with Guetta since the 00s, and co-wrote several big hits taking the Grammy for hit dance track When Love Takes Over.

According to reports, the producer suffered from ‘several cancers’ and ceased treatment in 2017.

Guetta has since shared his heartache at losing his friend and colleague, who it’s claimed died at the Tourcoing Hospital in France.

‘@fredristermusic and I shared some of the most important and beautiful moments of my life producing records together like I Gotta A Feeling that stayed 16 weeks number one in America, Memories or When Love Takes Over,’ Guetta wrote on Instagram.

‘Those records have changed dance music culture but also pop music.

‘I remember each second of it; from choosing chords together to working on drum sounds for hours, learning together and from each other.

‘He was the most loyal person I met and they are so rare in this world, such a talented humble generous and discreet human being.

‘We were always here for each other; for music and for life like it is in an ideal family when you trust someone with no limit.’

Guetta continued: ‘I feel very lonely right now crying in my bed but I guess it’s better this way as his cancer was making him suffer a lot.

‘Rest in peace my friend I’ll keep playing our music and I’ll think of you every time. We lived our dreams and way beyond and I‘m forever thankful.’

Friends posted to Rister’s Facebook page following confirmation of his death from his publishing house.

‘We had the chance to know Fred,’ the post began. ‘He could only take a beautiful and great place in our life and in our heart.

‘When we think of this wonderful man who left us we think of his joy of living that he knew so well to transmit, to his laugh and his voice that you could only hear.

‘It was for his friends a sun for others a hell of a bonhomie. A person on whom you could count. A man who makes us dance.

‘Despite his disease Fred has always been present, attentive to listening to all of us. Frédéric loved to feel loved. Are of all the love we have and that we will forever have for him.

‘That’s why we have to remember the memories that made us thrill.’

The statement continued: ‘Fred will always be with us. And despite his absence, he’s going to support us. He’s throwing us a message, the one to continue on the way to life. Fred wants to see us smile.’

Last year Rister opened up on stopping treatment for his illness.

‘The cancer that affects me today will be the last, since I know now: my days are counted,’ he said on a French show.

He added: ‘These treatments do not suit me, I’m tired, I do not want to live this life to stay alive anymore, I decided to live shorter but more normally.’

RuPaul's Drag Race UK season 1 cast of queens photos

Bow down, squirrel friends! All hail the reigning queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, all 10 of whom will compete on the international version’s first season when it premieres this October on BBC Three. On Wednesday the network unveiled the stunning roster of ladies — each handpicked by Mama Ru — going wig-to-wig for the Drag Race franchise’s first British crown, including an eclectic mix of comedy queens, lewk ladies, and diva extraordinnaires.

Set to be judged by Emmy-winning host RuPaul and his longtime friend and collaborator Michelle Visage (as well as permanent judges Graham Norton and Alan Carr), Drag Race UK’s rotating guest panelist roster includes pop superstar Cheryl, Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield, Chewing Gum creator and star Michaela Coel, America’s Next Top Model icon Twiggy, and Ginger Spice (also known as Geri Horner).

Ahead of the show’s debut, read on for an official first look at the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK cast members.

Baga Chipz (29, London)

Comedy queens of the world, rejoice, as one of your own will sashay into the U.K. Werk Room proudly wearing her humorous chops on her ruffled sleeves.

“Baga Chipz is a pub queen; tart with a heart; like someone’s auntie, I give advice on how to pull fellas and how to get pissed. I’m not one of these gorgeous, beautiful Kate Moss lookalike drag queens. My style is more cabaret, old-school, sequin frocks, Shirley Bassey, Danny La Rue, Lily Savage kind of drag,” she says, adding that she feels her greatest moment could come during the Snatch Game challenge thanks to her performative instincts. “My greatest strengths are my comedy and my wit. I’m a live performer and I do my own material. I might not have the best outfits or makeup, but put me on a stage and I will entertain the absolute sh—e out of the room.”

Blu Hydrangea (23, Belfast)

Intellectual glamour will blossom on Drag Race UK thanks to Blu Hydrangea’s green (okay, multicolored) thumb, as the 23-year-old describes her aesthetic as “a General Certificate of Secondary Education art project, high fashion from outer space, a cartoon character — with muppet realness.”

Whatever that means, Blu assures she’s here to slay lewks, particularly those on her mug, as she’s a seasoned makeup artist with a passion for innovation.

“Blu’s greatest strengths are her makeup, which is always flawless, my lovely outfits and my creative drive. I love to be outside the box, not just one of those queens who says they are outside of the box; I am outside of the box. One day, I might be a beautiful lady and the next I might be a pineapple,” she says, admitting that her sewing and comedy skills aren’t the strongest, but she’ll push forward by using unconventional materials to create unorthodox garments. “By day I am a makeup artist, and I think that will give me an edge in the competition because I know that Michelle and Ru will be looking for someone that is polished, well put together, and will wear that crown and look gorgeous, and that’s me!”

Divina De Campo (35, West Yorkshire)

Though death drops are absolutely out of the question, expect old-school, diva-sized attitude and vocals from Divina De Campo, a self-described purveyor of the “sequin dress, big wig, big lash, and approximate face.”

The 35-year-old cites drag icon Divine as a guiding influence, as well as the dressings of opera and Italian aria. She also has a falsetto range as a live singer, so she’s sure to ace any singing challenges Drag Race UK throws her way.

While she radiates star qualities of yesteryear, she doesn’t limit herself when it comes to performing. She once literally dove head-first into a rendition of guest judge Cheryl’s Calvin Harris-produced bop “Call My Name” with bloody good results.

“She does a swan dive on TV [performing the song], so I ran out into the audience and head-butted some fixed seating,” Divina remembers. “My eye just exploded everywhere with blood, and I just carried on singing. Then, I gave someone a birthday cake and stood with blood everywhere, trying to hold the cake far away so I didn’t bleed on it. I finally put a plaster on and drew my eyebrow over the top and finished the show, until I went to [the] hospital at the end to get stitched up. A proper drag adventure!”

Crystal (34, London)

Crystal stands to join the ranks of Pearl, Jujubee, Raja, Katya, and more as the mononymous franchise legends who’ve earned their singular monikers through jaw-dropping looks and performative skills. But, the Canadian queen — who’s lived in Britain for the past 10 years — considers herself to be more of a “gender-bending” oddity than a straightforward showgirl.

“[I’m a] ‘mess with your brain’ kinda drag queen,” she explains. “She stands for tearing down gender constructs using creativity, looks, and fashion and crazy performances. I do aerial circus, I can crack a whip, put cigarettes out on my tongue — it’s a freak show. It’s unexpected. It’s nothing you have ever seen before.”

Sum Ting Wong (30, Birmingham)

Like Miz Cracker before her, the 30-year-old Birmingham native knows her drag name is provocative.

“When I started doing drag five years ago, I wanted a name that was cheeky but also reflected my British Vietnamese heritage, so I browsed the internet and came across a meme about an American news report which turned out to be a prank,” she says, referencing a July 2013 incident in which a news program broadcast fake names of the pilots manning the ill-fated Asiana Flight 214. “It was about a missing Asian plane and all the names of the missing crew were plays on Chinese names, such as ‘Sum Ting Wong’ and ‘Wi Tu Lo,’ and another was ‘Ho Lee Fuk’. It was wrong in so many ways, and that was why I chose my name, as my an own act of reclamation!”

It’s a bold start for the vocally talented queen, who wants to break down racial stereotypes.

“Asian is who I am, but does not define who I am. I want to show you that I’m a queen like anyone else,” explains the 30-year-old. “This isn’t easy for me doing this. I’m first generation born here. I didn’t speak any English until the age of 3. I live an oriental Chinese Vietnamese background, so going from that and being told I need to go to school, university, you need to get good job, you need to get married, have a house, kids. I am none of that. I have decided to go against everything that I have been brought up to do, because deep down before I was a drag queen I was unhappy. This is the first time in like 30 years that I am doing something I actually love. People talk about representation all the time, but if a little Chinese homo is watching this at home and sees me [I hope he] thinks, Wow, I’ve been brought up to do those things too.”

Cheryl Hole (25, Essex)

With a name riffing on a popular singer (and Drag Race UK guest judge) and self-described ace death drop and dancing abilities, the blonde-and-beautiful Cheryl Hole seems like the perfect fit for the franchise’s new crown.

“Everything’s got a bling, a touch of vajazzle, but a real girl at heart. I like to play up the Essex stereotype and really incorporate that into my drag,” says the performer, who takes her Cheryl appreciation one step further as a member of the Girls Aloud parody group Gals Aloud.

But, just because she’s beautiful on the surface doesn’t mean her competitors shouldn’t fear her cutthroat spirit.

“I am a lip-sync assassin, and I’d like to see any of these girls try and out-lip-sync me as this is what I do,” says the 25-year-old, who also holds a degree in dance. “I’m quite well known for my death drop and dancing skills so girl you better watch out as I’m gonna bring the exclamation mark of the dance moves to the dance floor!”

Gothy Kendoll (21, Leicester)

A party girl like Courtney Act at heart but a glam-goth mistress like Sharon Needles on the surface, Gothy Kendoll puts on a show on her body and on the stage.

“My drag is dark, contemporary, striking and unique, and everything that is cool and fresh about U.K. drag now,” observes the DJ and party host, who also studied fashion before experiencing her biggest drag snafu of all time: “I think my biggest mishap was about the third time I did drag. I went out with a leotard with no pants dancing the night away. My friend just said ‘Sam,’ and looked down. Then, my knob was out, balls and everything. When I found I tucked it away and carried on dancing. I didn’t care.”

As a result, you can bet this avant-garde queen doesn’t even tuck like other queens.

“After that I’ve made sure I tuck my balls away — not full on tuck though,” she continues, continually resisting convention. “I’m not having my balls in my stomach — that’s disgusting.”

Vinegar Strokes (35, London)

A potent, comedic mix of “Tina Turner meets Lizzo meets Kat Slater,” Vinegar Strokes is serving a pungent brand of hilarity realness — a brand she’s already worked on stages across the country, even performing alongside Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio in the West End production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

“It’s great to be able to take drag from a small idea to the West End and hopefully beyond that,” she says. “I did dance with Michelle Visage every single night, but I’ve already been clearly told there’s going to be no favoritism and this will be a level playing field. She won’t be allowing me any airs or graces when it comes to RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. I better come correct!”

Scaredy Kat (20, Wiltshire)

Meet the youngest queen of Drag Race UK, 20-year-old Scaredy Kat, who describes herself as “very pink, very cute, and very feline-esque,” like a “nervous flamingo.”

She’s admittedly inexperienced compared to the other girls of the season, but she’s honed her own sense of style in her small town, where the only gay bar in operation was shut down before she could fully blossom as a young drag queen. Thus, the youngster turned to performing drag in internet videos posted, though she hopes the competition will help her improve her attitude on a worldwide stage.

“My greatest strength is probably the fact that I’m terrified of everything. I also have okay makeup skills, I guess,” she says. “I think being the youngest queen is a blessing and a curse. I haven’t got masses to prove, but then again I’ve got barely any experience. I’m hoping the others will underestimate me, especially, because I look this cute.”

The Vivienne (27, Liverpool)

“My style is like a scouse wife who has come into money, she moved to L.A. and blew it all, and then she’s had to move back to Liverpool,” says the Vivienne, a self-proclaimed comedy master who’s aced vocal impressions of celebrities from around the world. “I like to have a really fierce look, but I like to be hilarious on stage, so I’m kind of an old school and the new school put together, which I think works.”

Vivienne also has past Drag Race experience, as she says she was previously “crowned by RuPaul himself as the U.K. ambassador for RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which essentially involved being a hype girl for the American series’ presence overseas.

But her skills are so strong that Ru brought her back for the competition. When it comes down to it, “I can sing, I look good, I’m funny as f—, and I can drink a whole bottle of Jägermeister in 20 seconds flat,” Vivienne says, so if it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for us!
