Waitrose mocked for selling £6 autumn leaves as customers can get them for free

Waitrose was mocked for selling “autumnal seasonal foliage” for £6.

The product description reads: "Bring the outdoors indoors and brighten up your home with freshly picked flowers that reflect the colours of the season".

Unfortunately, the supermarket's hand-picked items only last a few days before deteriorating because they're natural.

And shoppers pointed out they could just collect them for free themselves by heading outside.

On Twitter, a customer called Sharon poked fun at the festive item.

She wrote: “Hello @Waitrose. I applaud you for trying to sell customers a bunch of leaves for £6. You are having an autumnal laugh. #Leavesforlaughs.”

Responders were equally amused by the product – with 340 of them liking the tweet.

Many joked they’ve got enough leaves in their gardens as it is.

One responder asked: “A bag of actual leaves? I’ll sell you a bin bag of leaves for 10p.”

Another wrote: “I just swept a load of those up!”

A third joked: “Everyone: ‘Money doesn’t grow on trees’. Waitrose: *thinking*.”

And a fourth added: “This has got to be from the drunk Monday morning meeting category of ideas.”

Despite the criticism, Waitrose has assured there is a demand for autumn foliage at the moment.

We don’t doubt it – especially as people have been making wreaths and garlands to give their homes a festive makeover.

Mrs Hinch is one of the celebrities who has already started transforming her house into an autumnal wonderland.

So would you pick up the leaves from Waitrose? Don’t forget to leave us your thoughts in the comments section below.
