The best XI of the season so far according to Dream Team points

Real football is pretty good but it’s got nothing on fantasy football.

Since everyone seems to be using this international break to pick their Team of the Season so far, we thought we’d follow suit.

Except we’ve not based our selections on fallible human judgement, we’ve used the undeniable authority of Dream Team points to determine the best-performing XI of 2020/21 at this stage.

The first thing to note is Chelsea’s defensive monopoly.

Frank Lampard’s new first-choice keeper and back four are leading the way thanks to a run of five consecutive clean sheets that came to an end last weekend.

Side note: Kepa Arrizabalaga (£2.0m) is the worst goalkeeper in Dream Team this season with a miserable -3 points.

Kai Havertz’s (£4.0m) inclusion may raise a few eyebrows but it’s worth remembering that Dream Team players score points in the league,  both domestic cups, and on continental duty.

The German’s hat-trick against Barnsley in the EFL Cup in Game Week 2 earned him 28 points in one fell swoop!

James Rodriguez’s (£4.2m) injury troubles have cost him a spot while Bruno Fernandes’ (£5.0m) 19-point haul from Game Week 8 saw him jump from outside the top ten midfielders to the second-best.

It’s fair to say Harry Kane (£7.5m) is in a league of his own with 137 points considering no other player has reached a century.

Mohamed Salah (£6.8m) edges out Timo Werner (£4.7m) by a single point to complete the XI.

This line-up seems to indicate that Dream Team gaffers would be wise to put their faith in Chelsea players with six Stamford Bridge residents making the cut.

And it will be interesting to see whether Grealish can maintain his place without European commitments.

While nothing is certain, you’d be a fool to bet against Kane finishing among the top three forwards if he avoids injury.
