Miss Universe has announced its winner a year after the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Andrea Meza, from Mexico, beat 74 other contestants to scoop the prestigious pageant title last night.
The 26-year-old, who graduated from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, impressed judges with her brains and beauty.
After dazzling on the catwalk, she was put on the spot during a quick-fire Q&A round where she spoke eloquently.
When asked about how beauty standards are evolving because of technology, she emphasised the importance of inner beauty.
She said: “We live in a society that more and more is more advanced and as we have advanced as a society, we have advanced with stereotypes.”
Andrea added: “Nowadays, beauty is not only the way we look.
“For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirits, but in our hearts and the way we conduct ourselves. Never permit someone to tell you that you are not valuable.”
Then when quizzed on how she would have dealt with the coronavirus pandemic, she said she would have responded as quickly as possible.
She said: “I believe that what I would have done was create the lockdown even before everything was that big.
“Because we lost so many lives and we cannot afford that. We have to take care of our people. That's why I would have taken care of them since the beginning.”
The Miss Universe star also impressed with her plethora of intricate outfits.
There’s a bikini round in the competition, as well as opportunities to model formal wear.
During the show, Andrea rocked a bright yellow bikini, hot pink mini dress and a glitzy halter gown.
She also honoured her country by donning a national costume featuring an Aztec dragon, ornate beading and a feathered headdress.
Andrea, who also works as a software engineer, was crowned by 2019 victor Zozibini Tunzi.
She is said to be the third Mexican woman to ever win the contest, following in the footsteps of Lupita Jones and Ximena Navarette.
Andrea couldn’t contain her excitement as she accepted the honour in a sparkling red dress at Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.
She also took to Instagram to celebrate with her 863,000 followers.
The victor gushed: “MISS UNIVERSE IS MÉXICO!”
