Kate Middleton v Meghan Markle: Royals have distinct differences in parenting styles

Kate Middleton and Prince William are the parents of three children – Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one. Meghan Markle,38, and Prince Harry,34, married in May 2018 and have since had one children together, Archie Harrison, four months. Both sets of royal parents have been seen out with their children and royals fans have been keen to know if Meghan has picked up any parenting advice from her sister-in-law. However, it appears they have taken very different approaches to parenting and Meghan is much more modern than Kate, according to an expert.

Meghan and Kate have both taken different approaches to bringing up their little ones.

Although both Kate and Meghan are raising children in the Royal Family, they have very different parenting styles, Zoe Bonser, Show Director at The Baby Show, told Express.co.uk.

Zoe said: “When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex became parents for the first time the world looked on in anticipation of how they would raise the latest addition to the royal family – and, if they would copy Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“However, as time progresses it’s clear that Meghan and Kate have both taken different approaches to bringing up their little ones.

“The most notable is that Meghan takes a much more modern approach to parenting while Kate appears to stick to tradition. Meghan trusts in her own decisions and makes her own way when it comes to motherhood, taking influence from others outside of the royal family.”

Even when Meghan was preparing the give birth, the Duchess of Sussex made it clear she would do things her own way as a parent.

Zoe explained: “Meghan chose to have her own birth plan rather than stick to the usual birth of royal babies.

“She also refrained from the day-of-birth photo opportunity and chose a modern buggy rather than the classic Silver Cross that was used by royals – and Kate and William – for generations.”

While both royals will mostly keep their children out of the limelight, it seems Meghan has made the privacy of Archie a big priority.

“Another stark difference is of course privacy and the fact that Meghan and Harry want to give baby Archie as normal an upbringing as possible,” Zoe told Express.co.uk.

“For instance, Meghan and Harry chose to forego Archie’s royal title, keep him out of the spotlight and parent without an army of staff. It seems that they are in their own happy, private bubble.”

The Duchess of Cambridge have displayed a more traditional approach which could be down to Prince George being third in line to the British throne.

Zoe said: “Kate is seen as more traditional and this is probably down to the responsibilities that Prince George will have one day.

“For instance, the children are always dressed in traditional British clothing for public appearances and Kate is happy for them to appear in photo calls.

“However, usually, Kate takes pictures herself, giving her the freedom and power over what is used in public – and a chance to use her artistic skills.

“Both mums seem totally in love with their children and it’s wonderful to see both Kate and Meghan enjoy their roles – both as mothers and royalty.”

When the royal children do appear out, Kate and Meghan’s body language with them show a different take on parenting.
