Baby, it’s cold outside – but according to TikTok this is a very good thing indeed. The #imcoldmakeup look is trending in a big way, apparent from the 25 million references to it. So what exactly is “cold girl make-up” – and should you be warming to the idea of it?
Cold girl make-up is that pink, flushed look your face gets after you’ve been for a long walk and there’s a chill in the air. In this (perhaps slightly idealised) version of winter, your nose is tinged a subtle, pretty pink, your cheeks are glowing and your lips are plump, all thanks to the icy weather. Put aside any images of chapped lips and a Rudolf nose and instead think of Cameron Diaz in The Holiday.
Basically a wintery refresh of summer’s “sunburn make-up” trend, the main focus is a convincing flush. Your nose tip is powdered with a smidgen more blush, and a mulled-wine like lip shade dabbed in the centre of lips for a just-bitten effect. The vibe: you’ve just stepped out of a Hallmark movie.
How to recreate the cold girl make-up trend
TikTokerZoe Kim Kenealy– whose “I’m cold make-up tutorial” video currently has nearly 500 thousand likes – suggests starting with a matte powder to “get rid of any glow” and create a blurred effect. Next, layer on orange and pink blush to get a “blushed moustache and blushed nose”. She also layers blush generously on her cheeks, finishing the look with setting powder to make it look realistic. To finish, it’s a wintery shade of lipstick and lightly filling in her eyebrows.
Charlotte Knight, founder and CEO of Ciaté London, suggests applying your blush in a “W” shape over your cheeks and nose. “To top it all off, you want to use an icy, cool highlighter over the tops of your cheeks and tip of your nose.”
You could even finish off your cold girl make-up with a glimmer of frosty highlighter in the corner of each eye and smear a clear lip gel over her lipstick, like TikTok influencerKate Marie.
