Drake found himself in a bit of an awkward situation after an Instagram Live revealed a song he'd previously scrapped.
According to E!, Drake (aka Champagne Papi) and Future debuted a previously unreleased song during Night Owl Sound's Instagram Live, which immediately had people buzzing. "Yeah, I'm a hater to society," Future's lyric can be heard as the two rappers mouth along and nod their heads in a video that's been recorded and shared on Twitter. "Real shit, Kylie Jenner, that's a side piece / Yeah, I got 20 motherfuckin' Kylies."
Drake's part picks up with the rapper presumably referencing Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid in the same vein, though he mentions only their first names. "Yeah, I got 20 damn Kendalls," Drake raps. "Young slim baddies and they in Vogue / Yeah, I got 20 fuckin' Gigis."
On the morning of May 21, Drake took to Instagram Stories to clarify that this song was not a new hit, but actually a song he chose to scrap three years ago. "A song that mark ran last night on night owl sound set shouldn't have been played," he wrote. "It's a song that leaked 3 years ago and got scrapped shortly after. He was just going too deep in the Drake/Future catalogue. Last thing I'd want to do is wake up having any friends of mine feeling disrespected so I just had to say that to start off the day."
This statement has seemingly caused more concern over the song on social media. "Drake calling Kylie Jenner a side piece on a song 3 years ago when she was 19 and he was 30…ya it don’t sit right with me," one Twitter user wrote. Future, who sang the lyric about the youngest Jenner daughter, would have been around 33 at the time, while both Kendall Jenner and Hadid would have been in their twenties.
Though Drake was not the rapper who mentioned Kylie Jenner by name, the pair sparked relationship rumors back in November 2019. “He and Kylie have been spending time together recently,” a source told People at the time. "They’ve been friends for a long time, and Drake is very close to the family.”
However, the rumors were eventually squashed. "Kylie and Drake are not romantic," a source told E!. "They have always been good friends and have been hanging out more that Kylie is single and Drake is in town at his house in Calabasas. It's a convenient friendship, but it's strictly platonic."
