Nanushka's Debut Eyewear Collection Realizes Restrained Summer Styles

Before delving into cold weather wears, emerging label Nanushka is expanding its product line with a selection of in-house eyewear designs. The dozen models on hand range from feminine to masculine and even dabble in between, as they’re all essentially genderfluid shapes for a world that has progressed beyond outdated norms.

Indeed, Nanushka has reinterpreted a variety of timeless sunglass shapes for its debut lineup, including aviator, cat-eye, square and even some tiny styles. Muted champagne, transparent brown and tortoiseshell tie into the minimal design ethos that fuels the brand — even its most adventurous make, a grey leopard print, is rendered in quiet shades for a versatile finish. Gold-toned arms and accents lend a touch of luxury to the proceedings, while quirky accents and shapes lend a touch of whimsy to the affair.

There’s also an air of eco-consciousness at the core of the new offering, keeping with Nanushka’s ongoing efforts to consistently minimize its carbon footprint. Here, the sunglass frames are cast from 68 percent bio-based, biogradable plastic sourced from natural materials. Similarly, the lenses are hybridized from 39 percent renewable resources like castor oil. Finally, the cloth and pouch that comes with each pair of frames are like-minded, with the former made from recycled polyester and the latter made of cruelty-free vegan leather.

“It was only natural that we would expand the Nanushka world to incorporate sunglasses,” said founder Sandra Sandor in a statement. “Sunglasses led me to think about ideas around anonymity, a timely discourse in an age when we all wear masks. It started a consideration of what we reveal and what we conceal that the brand will explore more boldly in upcoming collections.”

All of the new eyewear styles are available on Nanushka’s website and FarFetch.
